News: In Brief: Gareth Liddiard, Applecore, ..– Drones frontman and outdoor pizza oven-maker Gareth Liddiard will play a one-off solo show at Melbourne’s The Regal Ballroom on March 23. Liddiard has been laying low over summer, reportedly writing material for a “new album”, which may or may not be the follow-up to 2008’s Havilah , or 2010 solo debut Strange Tourist . New Review: DekotaListening to Premedicated, the EP from English four-piece Dekota, I recall exactly how I became such an advocate of rock music. Here is a band that have seemingly resisted any urge to carelessly thrash out some distortion and scream throughout every song, but produced a raw, moody sound still exhibiting some hard-rock moments. First track, Dirty Secret is the optimal way to introduce the band to new listeners. Within the first minute one can identify how tastefully the musicians play together and cannot fail to acknowledge how suitably Rob Leeks voice rides the steady groove of the verse. The Promise Ring on the Switchboard Sessions ..The Promise Ring is the latest band to appear on the Switchboard Sessions . Singer and guitarist Davey von Bohlen phoned in stripped down versions of "Skips a Beat (Over You)" from 1999's Very Emergency and "Bread & Coffee" from 2002's Wood/Water . As a bonus, he also recorded "Call Me Home" by his current band Maritime , as well as a cover of Mark Mallman's "We Only Have Each Other in the Night."
