Currently on down time, The National were recently coaxed out of the rehearsal room by All Tomorrow's Parties. Handed the keys to Minehead, the Brooklyn band have invited along some friends, contemporaries and heroes. The latest batch of line up additions include American songwriter Kurt Vile. Joined by The Violators, Vile's brand of hazy, laid back acoustic musings will resonate around the chalets later this year. The lineup for the annual Celebrate Brooklyn! concert series in Prospect Park, has been announced. It kicks off with a Jimmy Cliff show on June 5. While most of the shows are free, BRIC Arts Media Brooklyn also puts on ticketed benefit concerts as part of the series. Flock of Dimes - ‘Icy’ Brought to my attention by a tune she wrote and recorded for Robyn (see below), Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner has a solo project called Flock of Dimes; a venture that is markedly future-pop by comparison to the wistful shoegaze folk of her main stay band (and indeed her collaborations with Future Islands.)  ‘Icy’ surfaced late last year along with ‘Glaze’. Raleigh, NC’s big-big music festival has gotten even bigger this year, with the addition of historical (and possibly haunted!!!) sounding venues like the Long View Center, Memorial Auditorium and the Contemporary Art Museum to its 15 venues strong festival map.
