Woollen Kits

Woollen Kits play a kind of washed-out punk rock that slides a line between Bratmobile, Jonathan Richman and Scratch Acid and have released three home-recorded and handmade EPs on their own Periodic Collective label over the past two years, including a split with Wonderful Fellowship... Read More

  • Feature: In-Frequencies #9: Lakes, Bad//Dree ..
Our irregular round-up of some new-ish cassette, CD-R and vinyl releases featuring Ghastly Spats, The Galaxy Folk, Bad//Dreems, Mad Nanna and the best punk band Australia has produced in ages, Helta Skelta. Words by TIM SCOTT . Ghastly Spats We're Breaking Through the Hymen (EP, Heinous Anus Records) Two dudes and two gals who break out smeared mascara and chipped black nail polish rock. It all sounds kind of feral. The music that a Hollywood production company would use for the soundtrack of an apocalyptic film shot in Marrickville. 'Sordid' has a pulsating and droney vocal chant/mumble while ...

  • Feature: In-Frequencies #8: Taco Leg, Martyr ..
A hardcore-heavy round-up of some new-ish cassette, CD-R and vinyl releases including Loose Grip, Taco Leg, Martyr Privates and Negative Reinforcement. Words by TIM SCOTT . Loose Grip Cereal (7”, Bedroom Suck) By far the best 7” I've heard so far this year. The debut for this Brisbane weirdo/super group hits all the right buttons. It's five tracks of fun speedy US hardcore punk without the goon factor – well, maybe a little bit. There's also a good sense humour – one song is called 'Baked' the other 'Cereal'. Kieran's vocals are manic but controlled, but more on ...

  • Everything Shuts At 5 Around Here
Suppose someone said to you  your life's through or you've just got one more chance left to live which would you choose? You'd run to your Mother to help you decide We might as well all just stay in our rooms until we die - Felt - Chicago is the windy city. Paris is the city of lights. NYC is the city that never sleeps. Adelaide is the city that shuts at 5 every night. I left myself behind the years have not been kind I wander down the bay with nothing much to say It's 5 o ...

  • Woollen Kits / Royal Headache
[Stream] Woollen Kits - Out Of Whack [Stream] Woollen Kits - Always Spätestens wohlgemerkt, denn vorher kam dort neben Singles von Circle Pit und Naked On The Vague auch schon u ...

Our irregular round-up of some new-ish cassette, CD-R and vinyl releases including Cured Pink, Bleeding Knees Club side project Wax Witches and releases from Negative Guest List, the label/zine run by the late Brendon Annesley . Words by TIM SCOTT . Mole House Hey Come My Way (7”, Quemada) This debut featuring Michael, Pat and Carla of Mad Nanna and White Woods starts with a broken down pop song that's similar in feel to early Eric's Trip at their creaky wire screened kitchen door best. Carla's lead vocal has a sombre and introspective tone feel and the music ...

  • WOOLLEN KITS – Woollen Kits
(R.I.P. Society) I hate Woollen Kits R.I.P Society know how to pick ‘em. First Royal Headache, now Woollen Kits, and that’s in amongst a bucketload of raw Australian talent now hitched to their post. The debut record from the latter act is one devoid of any wankery, and I’m in debt to them for not having to sit through another tepid outing from a future Hottest 100 contender. Somehow Woollen Kits have put together an entire record of songs that sound almost effortless in their construction. Th ...

  • News: Woollen Kits Talk US Tour, New Album ..
Tom H, Tom R and Leon are Woollen Kits, three no-nonsense Melbourne dudes who write some damn catchy punk rock. After a couple EPs they recently released their debut LP on Sydney’s R.I.P Society, and are currently touring the US. Before they left, they spoke to TIM SCOTT about shedding their early Beat Happening-inspired sound, shooting budget DIY clips and their plans for a follow-up. Photo by DIMITY KASZ . So you've just released your debut album. How long was it in the making? Tom H: Ages! [ Laughs ] I realised 'Be Your Friend' which is on the ...

  • Woollen Kits
Woollen Kits are a three piece band from Melbourne, Australia. The trio has sprung out of the garage with their self-titled debut album, released via Sydney, Australia's  R.I.P Society record label. Its nine primitive, gritty guitar tunes straddle surf pop, proto-punk and garage rock. The album was mastered by Mikey Young, guitarist for Aussie favorites Eddy Current Suppression Ring and member of the garage four-piece  Ooga Boogas , whose debut album never leaves my side. Woollen Kits are currently on a tour of the US - see the dates here . They also have some free downloads on bandcamp . Melbourn, Australia’s Woollen Kits have just released their self-titled debut album via RIP Society and have commenced a tour of the US this week. • Some Aussie Day Flavour That Isn't Bloody Go ..
Happy Australia Day! I'm incredibly hungover after another successful Sonic Masala show, bur raring to do it all again! Before I do, though, here are some Aussie bands doing good that you wont find on the Australian yoof channel's top 100 shitfest. Blank Realm are a band that are incessant in their breakneck rise into the centre of the sun. Unlike Icarus, this Brisbane quartet want to feel the molecule-rending heat, to feel themselves morph with a might much greater than their own. Such a brazen exploratory outlook is evident in their ever-evolving live shows, which can swing ...
