Brisbane singer/songwriter Megan Washington is a something of a rarity – a trained and talented musician inclined toward exploring something deeper. As a spirited, creative child, Megan Washington danced around her Papua New Guinea lounge room to the sound of MGM musicals while the s... Read More

  • The Bamboos Cover James Blake – Wilhelm Scre ..
The Bamboos are a funk-soul outlet from Australia and, with the gorgeous vocals of Megan Washington, transform this intense, spacious track into a totally different song. Here is the original version of “Wilhelm Scream” by James Blake so you can compare: Wow, right? I love when a cover totally turns a song upside down. (don’t tell James, but this one is much more MY style!) Megan’s appearances on Lanu’s “Her 12 Faces” made that album one of my most-listened to last year and The Bamboos are one of the most dependably groovy bands ...

James Blake’s “Willhelm Scream” might be considered one of the hardest songs to cover in recent time, but as a 10th anniversary present to it’s fans, Aussie 8 piece The Bamboos and singer Megan Washington took on the impossible. Their result is a jazzed up soul lullaby, that sounds completely different form the original, yet it’s really refreshing. Washington sounds like the sultry female counterpart to Blake. Very good actually.  Have a listen below. The Bamboos - The Wilhelm Scream (James Blake cover) by CoverMe Via

To honor the tenth anniversary of their first release as a band, Australian funk/ soul eight-piece The Bamboos hooked up with fellow Aussie singer-songwriter Megan Washington for this lovely remake of James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream”. Recasting the skeletal electro-soul ballad into a retro-laced slow burn beautifully seasoned with horns, organ and strings and Washington’s [...]

Sydney Opera House - Wed Jan 25 Any musical artist would struggle to raise expectations higher than Washington has with her Insomnia show. Facts first: the show is one of the top billed of the Sydney Festival, it has sold out the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, it’s also one of only four performances – first in Sydney, then Paris, London, New York. Furthermore, the Insomnia album came in the wake of, or in response to, a reportedly emotionally overwhelming year for Megan Washington, in which h ...

Matt Corby’s has had a good January so far.  His ‘Into The Flame’ EP, featuring the current hit ‘Brother’ was certified Gold after just two months.  He has also equalled Washington’s venue record at The Corner, Melbourne with 5 consecutive sold out dates.  Not to mention the #3 placement in Triple J’s hottest 100 for 2011. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also been lined up for SXSW in Austin, Texas for a showcasing artist slot which should only  go towards an amazing launchpad for 2012 for his career both in Australia, the US and hopefully ...

"Gotye to top the Hottest 100." This was M+N contributor Andrew McMillen’s startling prediction at August’s Splendour In The Grass festival. And while he was mocked and derided like a young Nostradamus at the time, lo and behold, he was right. ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ featuring Kiwi-born singer Kimbra was officially announced this evening as the “hottest” song of 2011, beating out the likes of The Black Keys’ ‘Lonely Boy’ (#2), Matt Corby’s ‘Brother’ (#3) and Skrillex (#21). It’s the second year running an Australian act has topped the publically voted list, following ...

  • Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Reynolds To Star In ..
Next month will be an important one for Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon. The former is bruised after a pair of summer flops last year, "Green Lantern" and "The Change-Up," and will be hoping to cement his A-list status opposite Denzel Washington in "Safe House," while the latter hasn't had an unqualified hit since "Four Christmases" in 2008, and is hoping to turn that around by starring opposite Tom Hardy and Chris Pine in McG's "This Means War." But while they wait for their blockbuster drawing power to be tested, the pair are planning to team up for ...

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week: "If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers. The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period. That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the U ...

Real Estate - "Easy" from Tom Scharpling Funny or Die seems like an odd place for a band like Real Estate to premiere their new video for "Easy."
