Standards: Knockin' on Heaven's DoorWarren Zevon : Knockin' on Heaven's Door [ purchase ] There are dozens of songs penned by Bob Dylan that can be considered standards, but to me no other Dylan song has the "universal appeal" or an all-encompassing feeling quite like "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." The song is originally from the 1973 soundtrack to Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and describes that thoughts and feeling of a dying deputy. Bad Luck Streak in Dancing SchoolIt has always been my intention here to not only put up a couple songs from an album, but also to encourage folks to track down a hard copy, be it cd or vinyl (preferably vinyl), as the original always sounds way better than these compressed mp3's. I find mp3's too tinny sounding on the high end and thuddy and muddled on the lows. As far as portability and file size goes an mp3 can't be beat, it's the ultimate for taking your music anywhere, but the sound quality leaves much to be desired. Audio: Widespread Panic Covers WilcoContinuing a tradition started over 20 years ago, Widespread Panic filled their annual Halloween show in Chicago last night with an assortment of covers – some they haven’t played in years and others they’ve never performed before. The cover parade started with the first rendition of Willis Alan Ramsey’s Wishbone since December 15, 1989 (2,259 shows) and continued with the debut of Vic Chesnutt’s Degenerate and Muddy Waters’ Tail Dragger. Video: Warren Zevon – Werewolves Of London ..Ok, we know it might be a bit cliche to post a video of Warren Zevon performing Werewolves Of London on Halloween, but I recently finished reading the highly recommended Zevon bio I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon and have the music of the late singer-songwriter on my mind. While there are a slew of versions of this tune online, we’re going to go with a particularily fiery live version of Werewolves from an October ’82 show at the Capital Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey. Young Digerati cover Werewolves Of London ..The last of Young Digerati’s trilogy of Halloween cover versions finds them attacking cover of Warren Zevon’s ‘Werewolves Of London’. Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London Live at ..This is a live cover of one of my favorite songs ever, Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London. I can't listen to it without singing along, I even do the howling. Its just got a perfect simple piano part and is crazy fun. This version makes the piano a little bouncier and opens up with Zevon addressing the crowd before the song really kicks off. The audience starts clapping along before the song gets going and then he lets out a long high pitched howl before things jump into action.
