  • Goin’ Old School: Cabaret Voltaire, Pet Shop ..
Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia: Up first today, the mighty Cabaret Voltaire with 1980’ ‘Nag Nag Nag’, laying foundation for all electronic music that came after it. Late ‘80’s Pet Shop Boys now with ‘Domino Dancing’ from 1988, with that post-Italo [...]

  • WATCH: Voltaire Twins ‘Young Adult’
Ever wanted to replace your classroom chalkboards and notepads for synth waves and dance beats?? VOLTAIRE TWINS, along with a bunch of young hoodlums, have done exactly that in the clip to their new single ‘Young Adult‘.  Directed by Ben Young, the clip is reminiscent to that of OK GO’s 2006 film clip for ‘Here [...]

  • Ekoplekz - Scalectrikz & the New Radiophonic ..
The sound of two hands not clapping. This is the latest monster release from the ever-prolific Ekoplekz, this time seeing him flip cassettes from selected live bits and bobs (more bobs than bits, judging from his live performances) to studio improvisations and back again. There’s a wealth of material here, unformed and fruity, mangled like he likes it (like we like it) Echo dominates, nothing goes unmodulated, sounds screwed out of wires, savaged by electrics and misfires (and miswires). It’s perhaps superfluous to focus on individual tracks because these work best in bunches of three to five, like ...

  • DMX Krew "Turing Test"
A new, six-track EP is set to drop on Voltaire Records from a certain Ed Upton (of Rephlex fame), once again producing as DMX Krew . Creating spacey, urban dancefloor cuts from his analog-laden studio, Upton crafts a haunting electro jaunt on "Turing Test," a song taken from the aforementioned East Side Boogie EP , which is due out on May 8. Hard-hitting stabs of bass and vintage synthesizers punctuate the stuttering flow of this jam, writhing on several different melodies and resolutions before arriving at a chugging bassline that closes out the gritty proceedings. Accompanied by five other tunes (including a ...

  • Led Er Est - The Diver
by Joseph Burnett Continuing Sacred Bones's apparent dedication to reviving minimal synth and cold wave, The Diver recalls 1970s and '80s acts like Cabaret Voltaire, The Wake and DAF. It's a familiar formula, one that has already been reprised with some success by Wierd Records artists Martial Canterel, Xeno &... Read More

  • CABARET VOLTAIRE HOUSE
Holy shit. Cabaret Voltaire as I (and quite possibly you) have never heard them before, in a 1990 house crossover album, for which they actually traveled to Chicago and recorded with producer Marshall Jefferson (of the Classic Chicago house anthem ‘Move Your Body‘).
