  • Misterman - Lyttleton Theatre, London
Rich in darkly comic humour and Catholic guilt, a very precise element of Irish culture resonates throughout Misterman. Written by Hunger / Disco Pigs screenwriter and playwright Enda Walsh and performed by current Clash cover star Cillian Murphy, it recalls Pat Shortt’s hilarious and tragic role in 2007’s oddball comedy Garage, or an otherworldly Father Ted in which Dougal slowly loses his mind as Ted and Jack decompose on the sofa. Unburdened by the nine-hundred souls who will glare relentlessly at him over the next ninety minutes, Murphy wastes no time in marking his territory over the sprawling, quasi-industrial ...

  • Track Of The Day: Steezy Ray Vibes - 'Empty ..
Who is/are Steezy Ray Vibes ? I demand that everyone stops what they're doing and finds out who's behind this briliiant demo 'Empty City', so that we can use the name to describe all future tracks by artists that are definitively fluttery, whimsical acoustic ballads. Beginning as what sounds like a raw, acoustic cover of a track by 90's emo band Mineral, 'Empty City' suddenly veers off the road appears to end up in a little village made of small, cutesy straw huts and villagers dressed all in monotonous cloth as the sun sets in the background ...

  • Record Store Day: Rhode Island Update, Analo ..
I didn't see Analog Underground on the "official" Record Store Day list, but that may have been an oversight. I got the following oddly formatted message from the mysterious Mr. Analog Underground in my mailbox, looks like he will have some interesting stuff: Where do your records come from? I get this question alot.  I have a number of stock "record store guy" answers for this: The record tree, The Record Gods, Another dimension. I Usually go with "anywhere and everywhere," not only because it's true but  it's vague enough to confuse people.  Even though I truly ...

  • Girl Band - In My Head
Girl Band don't feature any girls. Of course. What the Dublin band, who've just released this single on a label responsible for early Villagers and Vincent McMorrow">James Vincent McMorrow, do is buzzing, frenzied post-punk meets post-hardcore roar and thrash with more than a nod to prime Sonic Youth, sounding as if it's done really well to get to two minutes before collapsing violently in on itself. • Track Of The Day 17/4 - John Maus
Domino Records are one of our favourite labels. The British independent think outside the box, toss the box aside and then continue pushing forward. So when Record Store Day comes around, you can feel safe in the knowledge that Domino will produce something special. This year, the label have really upped their game. 'Smuggler's Way' is a new flexi-zine - a fanzine created by pasting together a number of flexi discs. An almost fiendishly difficult thing to execute, the label managed to rope in assistance from Dirty Projectors, Real Estate, Cass McCombs, John Maus and Villagers. James Yorkston has supplied ...

  • OneFest: Sandra Bhatia
Most festivals claim to have a community feel, but few are actually prompted by a relationship with the surrounding community. Prompted by the Barge Inn Community Project, OneFest is the exception to the rule. Starting life at HoneyFest, the event grew out of a BBC docu-soap which followed Sandra Bhatia as she adjusted to village life. Somehow managing to pull the event off, the re-titled OneFest returns this weekend (April 14th) with a new name, a fresh location and a packed bill. ClashMusic got on the phone to the festival MD to discuss how the festival was coming along - and ...
