Cannes Review: Lee Daniels' 'The Paperboy' W ..Many people will tell you that "The Paperboy" -- based on Pete Dexter's novel, brought to the screen by "Precious" director Lee Daniels -- is a trash masterpiece, an instant camp classic, so bad it's good. These people, these critics, are simply not to be trusted about any question of judgment for a long time based on that half-hearted ironic "endorsement" of one of the worst films of the year, never mind at Cannes. Red Paintings Drummer DiesJoshua Engelking, former drummer of Brisbane art rock band The Red Paintings, passed away due to complications from a brain tumour. He was 30. Engelking joined the band when singer/guitarist Trash McSweeney, who formed The Red Paintings in Geelong in 1999, moved to Brisbane. McSweeney says that many of the songs worked because of Engelking. “We used to sit down and work out mathematical equations to the songs, jam without breaks for eight-hour-plus days and talk about alien conspiracies all day ...Rave Magazine22 May 2012

These Indians Find A Bad Path HomeNow this 7" The Path Home by Bad Indians came out aaaaaaaaaages ago - the Michigan collective sent it to me in the early throes of the year, and it had been floating about for a few months by then - yet it somehow escaped me until the title track popped up on my playlist on the weekend. It's three slices of trash can garage that is as infectious as it is sloppy, soaked in tonnes of sunshine and party juice. Live Review: The Brian Jonestown Massacre + ..Anton Newcombe is on a mission. The enigmatic frontman from The Brian Jonestown Massacre wants to “Rip the lungs outta of pop culture and smoke ‘em”. At Sydney’s Metro show – the first on this tour – he did all this and then some. But then, this came after he’d passed the dutchie to the sole support of the evening, another fellow cult band.
