Hey, Beach House! You’ve got some company. What would Roger Sterling do? Pitchfork : Because nothing says potato skins and buffalo wings like mid-2000s dance-punk: LCD Soundsystem seem to have been ripped off in a commercial advertisement for T.G.I. Friday’s, the American chain restaurant. The clip, below, features a song that sounds suspiciously similar to the music from “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House”, the opening track from LCD ‘s 2005 self-titled debut. Read and comment. • Andrew Weatherall On G.G. Allin
“I once had the pleasure of interviewing a founder member of a Detroit-based militant electronic music collective and asked him a question that I thought he might answer in a way that would help me with an artistic struggle I’d been having since hearing the phrase ‘sell-out’ at the age of fourteen during the punk rock wars of 1977. “As you get older and possibly have to burden financial responsibilities such as a family,” I asked, “does it become harder to maintain outsider credentials and anti-commercial principles and pragmatism begins to take hold?” He listened politely and pondered for ...

  • T.G.I.Mixtape 160
Although every week we put together the mixtape ourselves is a good week for new tunes, this one seems especially pregnant-- the excellent Father John Misty, new young acts like Mrs. Magician and Chappo, awesome contributions to the rapsphere from Killer Mike and Childish, and some new work from old standbys. Plus, an extended tribute to one of our favorite vocalists, who sadly left us this week. We work hard for the mixtape. New! Listen to (most of) the mixtape on Spotify! 1. "P

FLAMIN’ GROOVIES San Francisco’s Flamin’ Groovies were spitting high-energy rock ‘n’ roll with punky attitude during psychedelia then, when punk exploded, donned Beatle suits to homage the British beat boom. 32. LEGENDARY STARDUST COWBOY Texan psychosillybilly pioneer Norman Carl Odam donated space-fixated name and out-there agenda to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust master-plan, his cacophonous ‘Paralyzed’ single dominating World’s Worst Records lists. 33. This week's mixtape is stuffed to the brim with new music to discover, from face-vibrating vocalists to new singles from old favorites, songs suited for stadium rafters and songs suited for your next Bushwick dinner party. Thank God It's Mixtape, making your Friday at least 75% more enjoyable since 2009. And yes, we realize it's not actualy a "mixtape" per se, but wouldn't you rather call a nifty collection of songs that don't necissarily belong together arranged in a specific order just for yo

Nessuno? E il Cannibale in ...

A little over a year ago Mute recording artists (legendary and recent) all gathered at the Roundhouse in London for a weekendlong festival/celebration of the labels exceptional output. Audiences were treated to performances from classic heavyweights like Erasure, Nitzer Ebb, The Residents and future heavweights Liars…but one performance in particular was so unique and remarkable it resulted in a record. A collaboration between Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti (of Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey respectively) and Nik Void (of Factory Floor,) turned out an EP titled Transverse.
