Welcome to the fourteenth edition of New Music by Region . Every fortnight we aim to present the best new music in 8 major cities and regions from across the UK (and Ireland). With the help of regional correspondents, we plan to present our shortlist of new music in Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Dublin, Norwich, London and Oxford. New Music by Region #13 can be found here ! Name : Health & Efficiency – ‘Severn’ For Fans Of : Sonic Youth and These New Puritans Website : Official site Correspondent : Lyle Bignon A slow cooker that eventually descends into a magnificent wall of scuffed-up fuzzy noise, is carried along by an undercurrent of tremolo guitar, piano and vocals plus some awesome skills on the skins. Named after a 112-year old naturist magazine (possibly), the Brum outfit heave with the unbridled pleasure of 21st century experimental art-rock. Previous slots with vintage pysch-rock band Arbouretum, retro-futurist electronica trio Seeland and at alt-fest Supersonic go some way to mark out their musical intentions. Beautifully disordered. Name : Astroid Boys – ‘Trouble Out Tonight’ For Fans Of : Foreign Beggars & Odd Future. Website : Band website Correspondent : Emma Dudley Astroid Boys are taking over Cardiff with their infectious rap and raw hip, hop including a fan base at Radio 1. About to release their first album at Christmas after the immense response to their EP ‘Space Jam . For fans of a more serious GLC but not for people who think swearing is an uncool as a drunken grandmother. They will be the band everyone should see in 2012. Name : Stapleton - Full Beams Down The Mountain For Fans Of : American Football, Cymbals Eat Guitars Website : Myspace Correspondent : Rory Cargill While not a new band (by a long shot), Stapleton formed in 1997 and with four albums under their belt, they have still not been recognised beyond a very intimate and lucky cult following (less than 5000 listeners on last.fm is a travesty in my eyes). Recommend to me by the new singer of This Town Needs Guns and previously Pennines who are two of my favourite bands, I had to check Stapleton out. At the recent TTNG gig at King Tut's, members of the crowd shouted the band's name after seeing Henry Tremain's band t-shirt; the Scots are proud of this band, and righty so - huge elements of American Football style 90s emo meets Cymbals Eat Guitars. The album Hug The Coast is on sale for £2 on ...
