I always believed that Thin Lizzy represented a depressingly commercial line of hard rock in the early- to mid- seventies. After all, these guys regularly appeared on Top of the Pops and that was the ultimate in the mainstream. Having said that, if you have to have one album by the band, this was it. Better live than in the studio (with one obvious exception, more of which later), this album catches the rapport which Lynott developed with his audiences and which gave the band's live performances a particular edge.
