The White Stripes

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The White Stripes are an American rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consists of songwriter Jack White (vocals, guitar, piano, and once bass) and his ex-wife Meg White (drums and occasional vocals). After releasing several singles and three albums within the Det... Read More

  • Beck & Jack White Collaborate Again
Great news, especially given Beck’s run of impressive one-off cuts of late: he and Jack White’s first studio collaboration since 2007 arrives next week as a digital/vinyl single. Last time these former touring partners teamed up was under the White Stripes banner, when Beck produced three B-sides – ”It’s My Fault for Being Famous”, “Honey, We Can’t [...]

  • Watch: Carrie Brownstein Parties With the Wh ..
Today,  Pitchfork.tv  presents a new installment of its animated series  "Frames" . The show highlights first-person storytelling from artists, brought to life by Pitchfork.tv's animators. This episode stars Carrie Brownstein of Wild Flag , Sleater-Kinney , and "Portlandia" fame, discussing the dwindling allure of the post-show party. It features her bandmates, the White Stripes , and a congregation of furries (yes, furries ) during two ill-fated attempts to "cut loose on tour." Don't forget, Wild Flag perform at this year's  Pitchfork Music Festival  on Saturday, July 14. Single-day tickets are on sale  here .

  • Cannes: Michel Gondry Talks The Inspirations ..
Perhaps once regarded as a quirky, whimsical visualist known for his eye-popping music videos (Bjork, Beck, White Stripes) and his often pop-surrealist indie films ("Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind," "The Science of Sleep"), French filmmaker Michel Gondry has really challenged the boilerplate concept of who he is as an artist in recent years. He's taken on a tentpole super-hero film ("The Green Hornet" starring Seth Rogen), made a stylistically unadorned and deeply personal, yet unsentimental documentary about his aunt ("The Thorn In The Side") and another superficially quirky mainstream comedy that's actually quite a sincere tribute to...

  • Review: Jack White - Blunderbuss [Album]
Now, if like me you’re not the most ardent fan of *The White Stripes*, I mean come on get yourselves a bass player, then you won’t be super enthralled by the prospect of a *Jack White* solo album, I mean doesn’t the man do enough? Between all the *James Bond *theme songs and the side projects with...

  • Gossip, A Joyful Noise
At the beginning of the last decade, the Gossip were a garage band similar to pre-stardom White Stripes, if they were from Searcy, Arkansas, by way of Olympia, Washington, and led by an out, proud and queer fat advocate. Not anyone’s recipe for mainstream success. Fast-forward to the present: Gossip have massive European hits behind [...]

  • Jack White Live at Roseland: Rock's Willy Wo ..
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Erika Goldring, Getty Images On Monday night, Jack White played the first of two sold-out gigs at New York City's Roseland Ballroom. Performing with Los Buzzardos, his all-male backing band, White treated the crowd to an 18-song set that included songs from his new solo album, Blunderbuss, as well as his hits with the White Stripes , Dead Weather , Raconteurs and Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi . Rather than write up yet another narrative review of the show, here are the observations I jotted down. Full disclosure: These notes are most likely "enhanced" by the fact ...

  • Jack White, Record-Setter
Back in 2007, The White Stripes gave a one-note performance in Newfoundland, Canada. We don’t mean that it was all a bit samey, we mean they played precisely one note. The gig made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the shortest concert in history, but was removed from later editions of the book after a host of bands submitted claims of having played shorter concerts. Jack White (pictured) was apparently upset by the removal and said so in a conversation with Buzz Aldrin for Interview ...

  • Jack White Extends Guinness Book Brouhaha Ye ..
Jack White's brouhaha with the Guinness Book of World Records people has reached a whole new level. Metaphorically speaking. After hilariously vowing last week to "break the world record for most metaphors in a single concert," part of an ongoing back-and-forth over the White Stripes' failure to earn a record-book mention for

  • CONTEST – Jack White / Blunderbuss
jackwhiteiii.comCan I let you in on a little secret that probably puts me at odds with most of the music-verse, but I’ve never really been a fan of Jack White in any of his incarnations. Not The White Stripes, not The Raconteurs, not The Dead Weather, and not as just Jack White. He just mines [...]

  • Haim - New Waves
If you’re a fan of new music the chances are you’ve probably already come across Haim (pronounced as in time not rain), the Los Angeles four-piece consisting of Danielle, Alana, Este and (the non-pictured drummer) only man in the band Dash. So we apologise if we appear to be ‘late’ or ‘not on the case’ in only featuring Haim in an introductory new wave feature now, but the fact that the group have at the time of writing just over 2,500 followers on Twitter and 4,862 likes on Facebook suggests that there’s still a huge ...

  • Review: PS I Love You - Death Dreams [Album] ..
Duos seldom work if the two members are identical. *The White Stripes* were both bonkers, but in different ways, *The Two Ronnies* were incredibly funny, but the size difference was colossal. The same can be said about *PS I Love You*, the combination of bag of bones behind the kit , *Benjamin...

  • Live Review: The Brian Jonestown Massacre + ..
Anton Newcombe is on a mission. The enigmatic frontman from The Brian Jonestown Massacre wants to “Rip the lungs outta of pop culture and smoke ‘em”. At Sydney’s Metro show – the first on this tour – he did all this and then some. But then, this came after he’d passed the dutchie to the sole support of the evening, another fellow cult band. The Raveonettes are Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo . They play garage rock and punk music. At different times this can sound like anything from The Vaccines to The Breeders, The White Stripes to Dum Dum ...

  • Jack White to Attempt World Record for Most ..
In a recent interview in Interview magazine Jack White lashed out at…wait for it…the Guinness Book of World Records. Irked that the Guinness committee didn’t recognize the White Stripes’ 2007 one-note performance in Canada as the record for the shortest concert, White called the Guinness book an “elitist organization” that consists of “an office full of people who decide what is a record and what isn’t.”...
