The Walker Brothers

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The Walker Brothers were an American 1960s and 1970s pop group , comprising Scott Engel , John Maus, and Gary Leeds . They had a number of top ten albums and singles in the mid-1960s, including number 1 chart hits " Make It Easy on Yourself " and " The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)... Read More

  • 'Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World' ..
With the end of the world coming, you might think that some truly apocalyptic sounds from bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Mogwai might be appropriate, but at least in the universe of "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World," it looks like people are going to get reacquainted with old hits and classic tunes as they meet their untimely demise. The soundtrack for the movie is a pretty decent blend of radio hits like "Devil Inside" by INXS and "Dance Hall Days" by Wang Chung, oldies from The Beach Boys, Walker Brothers">The Walker Brothers and ...

  • DeLorean: Ivor Cutler - "I'm Happy" (1967) ..
1967: Ivor Cutler - "I'm Happy" by Miles Bowe on 02-01-2012 When I don’t feel like hearing anything in particular I’ll often resort to the shuffle button on my iPod. Now this can be a bit like playing Russian roulette if you have an eclectic music taste (I’m sure many of our readers can relate); Nas comes on ─ no problem; Fugazi ─ that’s fine; oh wow Walker Brothers">The Walker Brothers ─ it’s been a while. Then suddenly Kevin Drumm or Sightings comes to the party and there’s a terrible reaction. Questions are asked. “What the ...

1984: Walker">Scott Walker - Climate of Hunter by Brian Polsgrove on 11-14-2011 By 1984, the shiny veneer of Walker">Scott Walker’s career as a British pop superstar had all but vanished. Scott 4 , while considered relatively tame and comparable to his first three Scott albums today, was viewed as too dense and dark upon its’ initial release in 1969 and was a commercial flop. It was the final tipping point before the singer fell into relative obscurity for nearly a decade. A brief but welcome reunion of the singers’ original pop trio Walker Brothers">The Walker Brothers in the ...

  • The Bluetones, Academy 2, Sheffield
Tonight we’re in the intimate surroundings of the upstairs room at the Sheffield Academy, complete with a reassuringly sticky floor, as is so often the case in these places. It’s nicely full which is good to see. Now I must confess that I’m coming a bit late to the party on this one. So late in fact that everyone else has got their coat and is making for the exit, including the band, who announced in March that this will be their farewell tour. They are of course ‘The Bluetones’, purveyors of thirteen Top 40 singles and ...

  • My favourite album: Fire Escape in the Sky: ..
Guardian and Observer writers are picking their favourite albums – with a view that you might do the same . Here, Bob Stanley celebrates the godlike genius of Walker">Scott Walker When this album was released in 1981, Walker">Scott Walker's solo career had almost been forgotten. The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore was already an oldies staple, but his solo work was remembered, if at all, as a brief postscript to the Walker Brothers' hit run. These 12 exceptional songs, wrapped in what looked like a grey felt sleeve embossed with olive-green lettering, were buried deep. It is hard ...

Name: Euan James Hinshelwood About me: Singer from younghusband Listening to: I've been really into 50's/60's crooners and Motown the last week or so. Gene Pitney, The Righteous Brothers, The Walker brothers etc etc, Berry Gordy produced records. I love the orchestrations, the way the musicians play. It's really good heartache music. I think it's because i uncovered a box of 45's at a friends house that belonged to his mum - he didn't realise what was in it - and it was all that stuff. It will rot your teeth if you have ...

  • Walker Brothers Conquer Swinging London Then ..
Filed under: Twisted Tales Michael Ochs Archives / Getty Images It's largely forgotten today: Smack in the middle of Beatlemania, there were three kids from California who actually had a bigger fan club than the Fab Four in the UK. Walker Brothers">The Walker Brothers , as they were known, sang dramatic ballads with cavernous orchestral accompaniment, and for a brief period in the mid-1960s they were, improbably enough, the brightest stars in England -- the reverse British Invasion. "So we lost the American war of independence," gushed one radio host at the height of the Walker Brothers' carpet-bagging fame. "So what ...
