  • When Saints Go Machine - Bitter Sweet Sympho ..
La banda danesa When Saints Go Machine nos presenta este fascinante cover a uno de los himnos de The Verve, “Bitter Sweet Symphony”. Los daneses decidieron olvidar los violines cursis y hacer un track mucho más complejo e interesante. Enjoy. ♩ When Saints Go Machine - Bitter Sweet Symphony (The Verve Cover)

  • What Was The Best Track Of 1997?
Yesterday we took a look at the Best Tracks of 1996, as part of the site's 15th birthday celebrations (which also included a mammoth list of the 150 greatest tracks of the last 15 years). Today, we’re leaping forward a year to 1997. Our original Top 10 from '97 is pretty full of classic indie fare (The Verve, Blur, Primal Scream, Radiohead), as you can see below: 1. The Verve – 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' 2. Blur – 'Song 2' 3. The Verve – 'The Drugs Don’t Work' 4. Embrace – 'All You Good Good People' 5. Primal Scream – 'Kowalski' 6. Radiohead ...

  • VIDEO: Amerie '1 Thing' / STREAM: Edit The E ..
The main reason I'm posting a video that is over 2 years old is that I wanted to share it woith you in case you had your head in the sand or have just returned from a trip to Mars and missed out on one the best R&B; pop songs of the last decade. OK thats the first reason out the way and the second is the awesome mashup that Greg Wilson did that uses the Amerie vocal to full effect. He has just made this outsanding track available to stream and download on his soundcloud page and it ...

  • [Listen] – New Song By DOM – “Damn”
Tweet Just over a year ago I called DOM‘s “Living In America” as the summer jam of 2010, much like The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” back in 1997, but it didn’t quite turn out like that. Instead it was played by myself endlessly, and a bunch of other people but never quite attaining that BSS [...]

We all love a good mash-up. All our favourite songs rolled into one? Who wouldn’t go crazy for that? And so in honour of this, here’s something new from Mashup-Germany. The man has amazingly managed to roll SEVEN songs into one huge eargasm: The songs included are (deep breath): Bitter Sweet Symphony – The Verve [...]

  • Not Bitter
Got inspired to do a Bitter Sweet Symphony, by The Verve, post after hearing the Mexican Institute Of Sound‘s rather brilliant borracho / mariachi rendition (make it your Saturday night theme song). However there isn’t a whole lot more out there that I’d deem Versions-worthy material save a for an uplifting choral cover by the [...]

  • Exit Calm: S/T
Words: Gareth O’Malley Miss The Verve ? We do too. Not the incarnation that reared its ugly head on their woeful ‘comeback’ album (said comeback lasted pretty long, right?!), ‘Forth’. Nor even the band that created the lawsuit-baiting ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’. We’re talking about The Verve . Y’know, from their ‘A Northern Soul’ days, when they were at their peak. Those of you who are of a like mind will rejoice at the emergence of Exit Calm (if you haven’t been doing so already), a South Yorkshire-based quartet who have basically picked up the torch Richard Ashcroft and ...

  • Life seemed so obscene until it's over
It's a pity I didn't write more details on some of my recordings. Because this one I'm a bit vague on. Although officially released as a b-side to The Verve 's career defining single 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' , I'm pretty sure this session version of 'So Sister' was performed during the promotion for their previous album 'A Northern Soul' . I'm guessing though because like I say, my scribblings on the cassette go no further than song title and performer name. Detailing dates was clearly not something I had on my mind at the time. The thing ...

Salve a tutti. • Joy Division, Oasis, The Beatles, The Rollin ..
The good people at London radio station XFM have taken it upon themselves to list the top hundred songs ever to come from the British isles. Prepare to have some opinions !   For one thing, four of the top ten tracks, including the top three, are all by Oasis, who beat out the Beatles by a solid seventeen positions. ("Hey Jude" clocked in at #18.) You'll find the Arctic Monkeys and Cruel Intentions soundtrack fixture "Bitter Sweet Symphony" ahead of "London Calling" and "Gimme Shelter." Someone finally remembered Radiohead and the Sex Pistols at slots 25 and 47, respectively. It ...
