Review: Ellen Kibble - TurncoatSplintered relationships are common enough in the songs of Ellen Kibble, but they’re outnumbered by the spectres of water and death. The NSW native, who moved to Melbourne five years ago and last month relocated to Vancouver, has described her work as “melancholy sea-folk” as well as “clipped accounts of pulling apart and coming together.” Sure enough, these are discreet vignettes flecked with banjo and mandolin while topped with Kibble’s glum sigh and seaward storytelling.
