Music Video: Sainthood Reps – Monoculture ..Long Island indie rock band Sainthood Reps have released a brand new video for their song “Monoculture”, the title track off the bands latest release. The video follows a group of skaters shredding up New York City, carving their ways through busy streets, stores, subways and just about anywhere else you can think of. Sainthood Reps is currently on tour supporting La Dispute on their headlining tour alongside Balance And Composure and All Get Out. The Bronx is up but the Battery's downWe didn't get to the Bronx, but Battery Park, yes - on our last full day in New York, passing through on route to the Staten Island Ferry for a sail-by sighting of the Statue of Liberty. So what was New York like? Everything we'd hoped for at twice the scale. An all-absorbing, truly incredible metropolis - a clean, friendly and super-safe city (we were strolling around the back streets at 11 pm, riding the subways and mooching Central Park as dusk turned to dark – and felt perfectly fine and unrattled). Music Review: Charles Gayle Trio - Streets ..Charles Gayle Trio Streets [Northern Spy; 2012] by Clifford Allen Rating: In 1988, with the history of African-American free jazz and spiritualism seemingly written decades prior, tenor saxophonist Charles Gayle came onto the recording scene. In his late forties at the time, he’d been playing in subways and on the streets in New York since the 1970s and making rare concert appearances. Gayle came up in Buffalo; bassist Buell Neidlinger recalled to this writer in 2003 that, on a 1968 gig with fellow saxophonist Andrew White, Gayle was an especially strong and somewhat mysterious force.
