The Spring Standards

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The Spring Standards is an independent three-piece folk-rock band based in New York City . James Cleare, Heather Robb and James Smith first sang together in the last summer of the 20th century. Having just turned 16, the three teens with a common affinity for "oldies" music and harmo... Read More

  • The Spring Standards - Queen Of The Lot (Off ..
Just came across this video in my inbox and pretty much knew that I would like this one after only about 5 seconds of viewing. The song starts off with an amazing piano melody that has an old school saloon vibe to it and the video is composed of various puppets playing all types of instruments while dancing and clapping along. So we got piano and puppets so far to start this one off. All we need now is one more P and we would have the ultimate music video. 2 out of 3 aint bad though. I can't ...

  • Van Müller
All Van Muller ever wanted was the music. As a young girl growing up in the countryside of Brazil, Van Muller became enthralled with the music her three aunts introduced her to: Rock N Roll. Muller had the posters on her wall of rock icons and endured long bus trips to catch her heroes live, always dreaming that one day it would be her up on the stage. Inspired early on by the showmanship of acts such as Queen, David Bowie and Madonna, Muller quickly fell in love with the singer/songwriter aesthetic espoused by James Taylor, Neil Young, Bob ...

  • The Spring Standards – “Halcyon Days”
The Spring Standards present “Halcyon Days” a harmony driven, beautifully written, indie folk masterpiece. The Spring Standards were formally known as Old Springs Pike and included member John Gallagher Jr (a graduate of my high school in Wilmington, Delaware and tony award winner). Old Springs Pike toured heavily in the Penn/Delaware area before becoming The Spring Standards. [...]

  • 100Bands: Concert Poll
Last time we did a concert poll it was a really close race and a lot of fun to be a part of. April 12th brings three excellent headlining acts to Boston, all of which I’d be happy to see, so please help me decide. Below are links to all of the bands’ websites and samples of their music, as much as I’d like to tell you about these bands, I don’t want to influence your decision. Don’t forget to take into account the opening acts as well. Thanks in advance for your participation and I ...

  • Visions releases Re:Visions
When you think of the Boston local scene and take a real look at it, you see a lot of electronica, acoustic guitar driven hooks and pop punk but something that may have seemed to be missing in the city is a hole that’s been filled by VISIONS. Self described as alternative country, TJ Petracca took eight months to record ‘Re:Visions’ which quickly became a project that entailed up to eighteen live musicians at once! Since the release, VISIONS has become sort of a collective interchangeable band but there are a few members who have been with TJ ...

  • glotzt nicht so romantisch (135): the spring ..

Click the image to watch the video premiere of "The Hush." Like the song?  Click here to download the mp3 for free. For years, Paste has told you about the whimsical charm of The Spring Standards. Between their super-tight vocal harmonies, creative instrument choices, and lighthearted songwriting, they're a band that's really hard not to like. Their latest video is certainly in keeping with the band's aesthetic, but turned up a notch. Heather Robb  answered a few questions about the new video, and what else fans can expect from the band's upcoming EP. Paste: It definitely ...

100Bands Reviews: Review #19 What’s Left: 322 Days. 82 Bands. Band #19: The Spring Standards When/Where:  October 7th,  T.T. The Bear’s Place , Cambridge, MA Expectations:   Saw this band by pure accident, had no expectations.  Concert:  I arrived earlier than expected and was drawn to The Spring Standards performance pretty quickly. The best word to sum it up was “fun.” All three band members had this great banter going on between themselves and the audience, like they were playing for a room full of their 40 best friends. The small crowd that had gathered was really into ...

  • Band of the Week: Hypernova
Iranian rock band Hypernova have risked their lives to play music. In Iran, simply holding a rock show could mean arrest, large fines or even a public flogging. Hard to believe? The fact that Hypernova have put their lives in danger by playing secret gigs in Iran gives you an adequate indication of their passion for music. It also makes me wonder just how many American bands would do the same. "The underground scene in Iran is pretty intense," explains frontman Raam. "There are many amazing musicians driven by a burning passion who are literally putting their lives on the ...

  • Artist of the Week: Sahara Smith
Texas-based singer-songwriter Sahara Smith 's vocals are a unique blend of rustic and angelic. An old soul, the 21-year-old's lyrics are descriptive and well beyond her age. While tracks like the twangy "All I Need" relax, others, like seductive "The Real Thing" intrigue the listener. "I used to think that happiness was hiding in the dark/I believed in everything but love," she sings emotionally on "All I Need" with light guitar and percussion accompaniment. Born in Austin, Smith started performing locally at 14. She garnered national attention at 15 after she was selected to compete in A Prairie ...
