It's been a while since we've heard from Brooklyn's Gross Relations . We first posted them on the blog way back in April of 2011 and haven't heard anything from them until today! Apparently they've been busy working on their latest single and it marks the first time they've actually recorded in a studio. A pretty momentous occasion for a bedroom pop band. Voice sucks. Plain and simple. I cannot emphasize enough how seriously I hate those "become famous overnight" TV programs. But as much as I hate to admit it, Voice does have its few bright moments. Some of the songs performed by the contestants have been pretty OK and have saved me for some hard work and introduced my oldest daughter (she's 9 years old) to a string of new songs and artists (yesterday she asked if I could put some songs by The Raveonettes on her iPod touch). Finally these two performances by the four coaches are absolutely smashing ...

Weiter geht’s mit meinem persönlich geprägten Jahresrückblick. Bei den Songs haben sich zwei Coverversionen an die Spitze meiner Liste der meistgehörten und damit höchstpräfertierten Lieder gesetzt – und was für welche! Beides Mal wurden 5-Sterne-Songs in extrem gelungener Weise neueingespielt. Ansonsten haben sich einige Bands gleich mit mehreren Stücken in mein Herz gespielt, z.B. Ja, na sowas, schon wieder ein Jahr rum! Mittlerweile althergebrachter Tradition folgend will ich die letzten Tage des gerade zu Ende gehenden Jahres nutzen, um meinen persönlichen musikalischen Jahresrückblick zu geben. Leider war 2011 eher von Enttäuschungen denn von erfreulichen Überraschungen geprägt, so dass meine Charts diesmal mit vergleichsweise lauwarmer Begeisterung von mir begleitet werden. Zu den Bands, deren neuen Werke zum Teil weit unter meinen Erwartungen blieben, gehören: Lower Heaven (nach dem Wahnsinnsdebüt von vor 2 Jahren konnte die Band eigentlich nur scheitern; aber dass es SO krass geschehen würde, war dann doch ernüchternd) Zaza (s.o.)
