  • Feature: Report: Laneway Melbourne 2012
DOUG WALLEN and NICK ARGYRIOU review 64.7 percent of the entire bill of Melbourne’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival at Footscray Community Arts Centre on Saturday. (Fans of Girls, The Panics, The Horrors and SBTRKT send your grievances to PO Box 475, Prahran, VIC 3181, or just wait for the Sydney review.) Photos by MICHAEL BAINBRIDGE . The ominous clouds that “greeted” punters at last year’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival were replaced by near-perfect skies and a mercury that hovered above 30 degrees all day. For the third year running, the festival returned to the Footscray Community ...

  • News: Ex-Snowman Members Plan Solo Debuts ..
Following Snowman’s premature but not entirely unexpected departure , members Joe McKee and Andy Citawarman have been putting the final touches on their respective solo debuts. McKee, who has been based in London for the past couple years, recorded the album with long-time collaborator Dave Parkin at Blackbird Studios in his native Perth while holidaying there over summer. The as-yet-untitled album’s 10 songs were written over the past few years in London and while travelling through Europe. “It's a fairly reflective album,” McKee told M+N this week. “It's about leading a double life of sorts. It ...

  • The Panics – ‘Not quite a home’
New video from ‘The Panics’ featuring footage from Indonesia, probably shot on a 5DII and very well edited. Catchy tune with some twisted foreign scenes of gambling and cock fights. Warning – indie guy Jae Laffer smoking too many cigarettes. Check out The Panics at the Laneway Festival and here – http://whothehell.net/vHsz

  • News: Watch: The Panics’ Jae Laffer Smoke Hi ..
Jae Laffer smokes more than a detective in a ’70s cop show in The Panics’ clip for ‘Not Quite Home’, the latest single from last year’s Rain On the Humming Wire . While written in England, the song – “about displacement, travel and unrequited love” – is set in Indonesia, where Laffer and a filmmaker pal travelled last year. The pair hit the road for a few days, meeting locals, smoking lots of rolled cigarettes and letting the camera roll. “We gambled at a makeshift pool hall on the side of a highway, wandered the charred remains of a volcanic crater, walked ...
