The Magnetic Fields

The Magnetic Fields (named after the André Breton novel, Les Champs Magnétiques [ 1 ] ) is the principal creative outlet of singer-songwriter Stephin Merritt . While the particular musical style of the band is usually as malleable as Merritt's songwriting, they are commonly attribute... Read More

  • Magnetic Fields give us Andrew in Drag (vide ..
If you love the arch humour and droll delivery of the Magnetic Fields, then you’re going to enjoy their new track ‘Andrew in Drag’. It’s about falling in love with a crossdressing man but, and here’s the twist, he only did it as a joke and you’ll never see him/her again. The video features a man and a woman preening and preparing as they both crossdress, so prepare to be amused and hopefully a little bit confused. Album Love at the Bottom of the Sea is out early March.   Story originally posted on SupaJam .

  • Lux - "The Window" [Free Download]
Seattle-based duo Lux are gearing up to release their debut album We Are Not The Same on April 3rd. Thankfully they're are also offering the lead-off single "The Window" for free download. Teaming with fuzzy guitars, vocal duets and synthy elements, Lux offer a nifty combo of indie and shoegaze. Citing influcens such as Velvet Underground, Magnetic Fields and Jesus & Mary Chain it's hard to avoid this fresh sonic sensation.

  • Song of the day: "Beauty" by the Tall Dwarfs ..
One thing that drives me crazy about American pop culture is its exceedingly narrow definition of beauty. (I'm such a big fan of U.K. TV in part because characters look like real people, not Cosmo models.) The Tall Dwarfs, who originally released this song in the early '80s, feel my pain: "Be grateful if your left eye's lower, if each breast has got a different size. Praise God for all things imperfect--for the stretch marks on your thighs." Hear the Tall Dwarfs original, plus a nifty cover by the Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt here .

  • LUX Unveils Cover of BLACK TAMBOURINE Song " ..
The Seattle-based duo Lux counts Velvet Underground, Magnetic Fields and Jesus & Mary Chain among its significant influences. Lesser names have impressed the band as well, including influential late-80's / early-90's twee-pop band, Black Tambourine. Lux was inspired to include a cover version of that band's song "Black Car" as a hidden track on its upcoming album 'We Are Not The Same' (out April 3rd, 2012) and fans hear the cover below.
