  • Funeral Suits – All Those Friendly People ..
Download link is in the original post Sounds like: Last Dinosaur, The French Kicks, The Libertines, Ambulance Ltd. Song: Funeral Suits - All Those Friendly People [download here ] What's so good? I don’t normally get behind this particular brand of indie pop, as it can run the risk of being far too volatile and young — like they’ll burn themselves out before musical maturity. So to save from being musically miffed, I usually let tracks/bands like this come and go back into the obscurity from whence they came. However, “All Those Friendly People” is right at the borderline ...

  • Album Review: Howler – Give Up America
Words by guest reviewer Matt Abbott of Skint and Demoralised As we all know, there have been an abundance of outstanding debut albums from indie rock bands over the last decade. The lines between a distinctly British musical sound and a distinctly American one were blurred beyond recognition, and the indie world was united in worshipping the heroics of The Strokes, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys and dare, I say it, Razorlight. So if you’re going... Continue reading Album Review: Howler – Give Up America

  • The Craven Braves - Rough Diamond

  • Howler: America Give Up
Howler America Give Up Rough Trade Records [2012] Fire Note Says: Looking for some fun sounding rock n roll? Look no further as the debut from Minneapolis's Howler will make your feet tap. Album Review: I will fully admit that I love when music comes back around to the rock basics and that is what we get with the Minneapolis group Howler. Their sound will and has been compared directly with The Strokes - in fact frontman Jordan Gatesmith could be related to Julian Casablancas as their vocals are very similar. Now really is this a bad thing? Absolutely not ...

This teaser trailer has emerged for the Libertines film There Are No Innocent Bystanders. The documentary, made by Roger Sergant is available now on DVD, and will have it’s cinema premiere at The Troxy, East London on April 29 th . Following the band from their 2010 reunion, Sergant had unprecedented access to all four Libertines, drawing stories and musings from them as individuals and as a group, and creating what is likely to be an essential new part of the Libertines canon. • Degrees are in the studio again
They've been going a good few months now and have produced a three track single and some superb live performances, including one at the Colchester Arts Centre in late 2011.  I was at Degrees' first gig last Halloween when Alex drummed whilst covered in fake blood and Patrick had the real life horror situation of having to sing with flu and half a voice. Luckily it was the tuneful, if raspy half, and the performance went down a storm. Since then they've played in and around Chelmsford, most recently on Friday the 13th of this month at Hooga ...

  • Indie rock's slow and painful death
Sales figures suggest alternative rock is in a dismal place right now. Will it ever recover? And should we care? This year's Brit awards will be a melancholy experience for indie fans. The genre's big performers on the evening will be Blur and Noel Gallagher, a pairing that will evoke memories of the 1995 ceremony, when Britpop swept the old guard away, and thus highlight the contrast with the current state of play. The latest issue of Q magazine opens its review of the new Maccabees album with the rhetorical question: "Has there ever been a worse musical ...
