Library of Congress to Induct 25 Sounds Into ..The Library of Congress has selected 25 “sounds” that have shaped American culture to be catalogued. While the sounds do include classic moments from popular music such as the late Donna Summer’s 1977 song “I Feel Love” and a recording of The Grateful Dead’s 1977 concert at Barton Hall, the collection also features the only known audio of American slaves who were interviewed in the 1930s. Also featured is sound from a talking doll created by Thomas Edison in 1888 that is believed to be the earliest commercial sound recording....Paste Magazine24 May 2012

One was a venerable tree with a diameter (not circumference) close to 3 feet and a height nearing 50 feet – beautiful, huge white flowers. The other was a third-the-size, pink-flowered tree, and we knew it as a “Japanese” magnolia.
