The Futureheads

England

The Futureheads formed in 2000 in Sunderland, UK or more specifically, in Barry’s garage. The line-up of the band at that point was Jaff (Bass, Vocals), Barry Hyde (Guitar, Vocals), Ross Millard (Guitar, Vocals), and Peter Brewis (Drums, Vocals), now of cerebral pop-masterpiece-maker... Read More

  • Cygnets Prepare For Dark Days
Edmonton's Cygnets is the culmination of many years of hard work, as songwriter and musician Logan Turner worked privately writing and recording hundreds of songs before deciding to explore a group dynamic. This collaboration was finally realized in close friends Chris Bruce and Dan Snow. Bringing textured, inspiring guitar work and bright, catchy synthesizer hooks, they compliment and enhance Turner’s ambitious songwriting style and singular, melodic vocals. Quite possibly the best British band who aren't actually British. Cygnets are one pogotastic, jumpy, synthpop band who take 80's new wave, The Futureheads, and maybe even Depeche Mode ...

Oxford, UK-based quartet Jonquil has debuted the brand new video for "It's My Part" down below, a whirlwind of amateur mechanical bull riding, spinning pizzas and excellent animal masks, directed by Franklyn Banks and produced by Lucy Kellett. "It's My Part" is the first single off their forthcoming 'Point Of Go' album, out February 21st with Dovecote Records (The Futureheads, Hooray For Earth). The full-length will see an international release with Blessing Force; a growing community of artists, musicians and writers in Oxford that involves the band's other projects Chad Valley, Pocket House and Solid Gold Dragons.

  • MP3 of the Day (and more!) #477: Baddies
Baddies‘ next single, released on the 30th of January, is for the song ‘Bronto’. Is it a monster of a song? Does it have bite? The band are offering the song for a free download for a limited time. I’m rather liking it myself, it’s got Futureheads attack immediacy. You can also watch the promo video below too. Baddies’ next album ‘Build’ will be out on the 5th of March. Bronto by Baddies

  • Young The Giant- ST
Sometimes I get spoiled by living in Los Angeles. Whether it’s walking down the street and bumping into a celebrity or knowing about a “hot” band before they make it seems completely normal. Sure the latter part of that statement will probably ostracize me from some of my readers, but it’s true. Although it seems pretentious and snobbish, it feels weird constantly saying, “I have been listening to this band for X amount of years before anyone knew who they were.” After a while you become accustomed to this feeling and jaded since a lot of breakthrough bands ...

  • The Cast of Cheers - Family
Watch out for Cast of Cheers. The Irish band, coming off a 150k-downloaded (!) bandcamp album, are readying their proper debut which is due sometime early next year. Our first spin of that debut is the track for “Family”. Angular, dynamic, and rhythmic as hell, “Family” might remind of The Futureheads or Maximo Park. Big [...]

  • You've Got That Turnpike Glow
Turnpike Glow started life in Italy but are now UK based, bringing their sunny, quirky Phoenix influenced sound to Britain’s rainy shores. Sandro Schiena (vocals / guitar / keys) and Giuseppe La Mela (vocals / bass / keys) started the band in Rome, in a scene marginalised by glossy Italian mainstream pop and insider trading. However, with their Pavement / Phoenix inspired sound, they soon found themselves supporting acts like Cooper Temple Clause, The Futureheads and The Constantines. It wasn't long before Sandro and Giuseppe, the songwriting core of the band, moved to London armed with only their guitars and a bag full ...

The album will hit the streets via compact disc, digital and vinyl formats on January 17th, 2012. The digital version of the album will contain three bonus tracks.
