The Cramps

The Cramps

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The Cramps were an American garage punk band formed in 1976 and were active until 2009. The band split after suffering the death of lead singer Lux Interior . [ 1 ] Their line-up rotated much over their existence, with the husband and wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist Poison Iv... Read More

  • HURRY HURRY HURRY........
This is a truly wonderful free exhibition of photos on display in Glasgow until 27 February. From the accompanying website:- Harry began his photographic career in his Glasgow home town, standing outside the Apollo, flogging gig-goers newly-developed shots from bands' Edinburgh shows the night before. Harry's impulse to guerilla lensmanship swiftly drew him to London: from 1979 to 1984 he was a staff photographer for the music weekly Sounds, providing countless front covers. During those five years, Harry's photographs covered the post-punk waterfront, from Blondie to David Bowie; the Associates to Devo by way of Joy Division, Bryan ...

  • See Urchins
Urchins From: St Helens, United Kingdom It's not clear if St Helen psych rockers Urchins are still in existence or on some form of lengthy sabbatical. They haven't logged into their myspace site since August (not that unusual these days I know), their last Soundcloud upload was 9 months ago, their facebook page hasn't been updated since September and there hasn't been a tweet from them since 2009! All of which is slightly ironic (are you taking notes Alana) since they set their sites up under the monicker Urchinsmania. This may have been wishful thinking on ...

Toronto trash garage band The Bats Pajamas have made videos for two of the tracks from their forthcoming second full-length. Two loud and dirty tracks with fuzzy guitar and over the top vocals that well go down well with fans of The Cramps and the Nuggets compilations. • The Man Who Styled The Beatles And David Bow ..
Guardian UK : Starting in 1966, Lloyd Johnson helped change the look of rock’n’roll fashion, selling his iconic designs to Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, David Bowie, Oasis and many more. A teenage modernist from Hastings, he began procuring tab collar shirts for the Beatles and Stones at Cecil Gee’s menswear shop in London’s Charing Cross. On opening his own boutiques, the Heavy Metal Kids in Kensington Market from 1967 and Johnsons, The Modern Outfitters on the King’s Road in 1978, he became an image-maker, kitting out Roxy Music in embroidered shirts, Rod Stewart in velvet suits ...

  • Lark - I Don't Got (2011)
Any band whose sound draws comparisons to a frothy mix of Tom Waits, The Fall and Roxy Music is work a listen, no? That Lark are described as such by their own label ought not to taint your curiosity.  "I Don't Got" sure covers a lot of ground in fifteen tracks. The East London quintet may not soar as high as their idols, but their ragged, deft attempts are often in the ballpark of greatness. If Svengoolie sat in with The Cramps, the horror-pop of "Palucca" and "Bleeding" might have been the result. From the sludge jam on "Kong ...

  • Elvis with Buddy Love with Elvis with...
The Elvis Experience with Buddy Love is a curious bit of Elvis-iana from Spain. Apparently it's yet another E impersonator, but one that raises a number of questions: why does he go by the name Buddy Love, the name of a Jerry Lewis film character? What's with that picture (taken from his MySpace page)? Is he doing a Buddy Holly impression on "True Love Ways"? And why does he start this CD-R (presumably sold at shows) with four obscurities, then a Peggy Lee cover, instead of Elvis classics? Maybe those songs where big in Spain. "Edge Of Reality ...

  • The In Out, “The Venal Column” LP
The In Out’s newest LP, The Venal Column, is yet another one of those releases that defies classification. The tear sheet that came with the record uses “the Cramps meet the Fugs.” The dirty, swampy overtones favored by the Cramps definitely shine through on this release, but I’d say it veers closer to early ‘80 [...]

Click here for download Sounds like: The White Stripes, Wolfmother Song : The Black Keys - Sister [download here] What's so good? The garage rock heroes from Ohio have added a cylinder to their sound on every successive album, to the point where they’re firing away on a V7. Here, on their seventh full studio album El Camino , the duo have relocated to Nashville where guitarist Dan Auerbach has founded his own recording studio. Along with drummer Patrick Carney, they delve into punk influences from the likes of the The Clash and The Cramps, and, like both 2008′s Attack ...

  • Grand Voyagers - The Black Keys Interview ..
When it comes down to it, very few things in life are constant. Jobs, partners, friends and even cities all come and go as the journey of existence unfolds. However, for the tumultuous life of one of the world’s biggest bands, you can multiply that theory by a hundred and more so. With non-stop travelling, playing shows, media runs and a steady stream of releases, the stranded existence of a musician (God bless ’em, someone has to do it) is only rivalled by those that are in the trenches with them. For Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach, life inside ...

  • The Black Keys - El Camino
Few critics could contest that The Black Keys success is undeserved. And, as the Akron-duo releases its seventh studio album, to what is undoubtedly the highest point in a career now spanning ten years, they’ve arguably produced their best work to date. With influences ranging from the likes of The Cramps and T-Rex to rockabilly Johnny Burnette Trio, the result is a heavy dose of 50’s rock ‘n’ roll with an injection of 70’s edge, all laced over the original bluegrass melodies. Produced by man of the moment, Danger Mouse, the sound remains unmistakably Black Keys but ...
