Feature: Unsound Festival New York 2012by TMT Staff • April 2012 This year marked the third installment of the New York edition of Unsound , an offshoot of the annual Kraków fest (which will have its 10th installment in October). From April 18-22 and across five different venues — BAMcinématek, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Public Assembly, Lincoln Center, and ISSUE Project Room — Unsound New York 2012 featured music that included everything from warped dub and ambient metal to bass-heavy club music and techno. News: Vale 'Living Australian Treasure' Jimm ..reports that legendary Australian singer Jimmy Little has passed away today (April 2). Little, who recently celebrated his 75th birthday, suffered from diabetes and kidney failure, undergoing a successful kidney transplant in 2004. He passed away this morning with his daughter by his side after a recent bout of ill health. His wife Marjorie Rose Little died last year aged 74. Born near Echuca, on the border between Victoria and New South Wales, Little was one of the first indigenous artists to attain mainstream commercial success, making 35 albums in a storied 50-year career. 1988: Under the Milky WayThe Church : Under the Milky Way [ purchase ] When The Church’s 1988 album Starfish was released, I was just 13 months old. Armed with that information, you might not be surprised to discover that this week’s prompt left me scanning through a petty array of choices in my music library to make this post. Still, I ended up with enough options to need to whittle down to a final decision, and I think this song was inevitable the whole time. Review: Various Artists - The Great Australi ..“All-time” lists, be it football teams or songs, will always be met with conjecture . This is perhaps why The Great Australian Songbook – a set which promises “40 of Australia’s finest recording artists performing 40 of the best Australian songs from ‘last century’ and ‘this century’” – is, by its very nature, contentious. The Church - Starfish (1988)Much as I have tried, I suspect I have not tried hard enough. I have to ask myself the question, ‘am I becoming tired of guitar driven bands?' The answer is no, I just struggle with this particular album. For some reason this does not move me as much as I expected, and indeed hoped it would. This is the best output by the Church , and it is solidly guitar driven no nonsense post punk inspired jangle pop. The twin guitars form the rhythm and provide a solid basis, then the bass line rolls in and finally the drums kick ...Music Emissions27 January 2012

the Church - O.K.- I get it now!!I finally got to see the Church live on xmas eve... O.K. I GET IT NOW!!... yeah yeah.. I know.. "You've never seen the Church live b4 ????" well... no I haven't...a fact I'm not proud of... It's just how things happen sometimes. I'm a fan - don't get me wrong! I have a job starting up soon in Australia, where I will be based out of Adelaide. I have lived down under before, just over 10 years ago when I was an exchange student at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Til The Day Is Done: RIP R.E.M.R.E.M. has called it quits . A lot of cynics would say this move is coming about fourteen years to late, and that the band never should have reneged on their handshake deal that they'd break up if any of the original members left the group. That opinion would be wrong. Of the five albums Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, and Mike Mills have recorded since Bill Berry left the band in 1997, only one (2004's Around the Sun ) was truly a stinker, and the last two ( Accelerate and Collapse into Now ) have been damn good.
