  • The Books to Release Career-Spanning Box Set ..
Now that the Books are finished making music together , they'll release a career-spanning box set. The set, which is slated for release "by the end of the summer," according to Nick Zammuto's email list, will include all of the duo's albums, plus audio and visual bonus material. Zammuto is keeping a blog in the weeks leading up to the box set's (yet-unannounced) release date, writing about the "recording process for each track, and the odd stories surrounding the project." Also, Zammuto's new band is on the road with Explosions in the Sky this summer . Update ...

  • The Books prep box set the size of multiple ..
Good news on top of bad news, everyone! We’ve already reported on the slightly mysterious (though not entirely surprising) disbandment of abstract folk duo The Books this past January. At the time, Nick Zammuto calmly alluded to “a box set with the four [Books] records” as one noteworthy aspect of their musical death knell, but now that a few months have passed, the reality is looking even more worthwhile. As Zammuto himself relays, The Books are releasing an “enormous” box set of all their albums, plus a “huge” amount of bonus material, both audio and visual, by the “end ...

  • Zammuto – Zammuto
Nick Zammuto draws back the creative curtain on this new project, replacing the reticent artsiness of the Books with genuine, unvarnished emotion of Zammuto for the continuation of his imaginative musical story.

  • SHOW REVIEW: Explosions in the Sky and Zammu ..
A few weeks ago I had the privilege to witness two extraordinary bands play the classy and echoing halls of The Palace of Fine Arts. Having seem Jonsi (of Sigur Ros) and The Books dominate this stage already, I was confident that both the mighty Explosions in the Sky and Books guitarist Nick Zammuto’s aptly named new project Zammuto… Read the full article

  • Wave Upon Wave of Idiom. Zammuto, Zammuto. ..
It were a sad one the day the Books called time on said project and sadder yet still when Nick Zammuto  conceded to chapters scribed with erudite accomplice Paul de Jong being slammed shut definitively . All good things must come to an end if the hackneyed proverb is to be read into and if one irrevocably great thing may have come from the drawing of proverbial line beneath endeavours Bookish then it's this lustrous debut from its compulsive creative, who here beams in an opus of sorts from some bucolic bit down the back of the sofa of America ...

  • Zammuto - Zammuto
One of the reasons The Books were such a great group was that they created music that was wildly unique and experimental, yet still immediate, fun, and, for the most part, accessible. And while it may be a bit unfair to immediately compare Nick Zammuto's new self-titled project, Zammuto , to his old band, it's worth noting that he brings that same talent for creating simultaneously interesting and exciting music to this new album, also titled Zammuto . This should already be obvious, though, to anyone who's heard Zammuto 's opening track, which dropped nearly a year ago in ...

  • Diminished Frustrations. Human Don't Be Angr ..
Sometime [circa 2006], somewhere [likely Falkirk] a solitary tear will most probably have trickled down bristled whisker to the sound of Philophobia , the news of Arab Strap's untimely demise bungling about within churning stomach like jittering die sheltered from the perils of this world by the plastic rotunda of a Pop-O-Matic. It's not as though the band's constituents Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffat have receded into periods of protracted mourning nor lengthy spells of hibernation since; it's just that they're indubitably at their best when strapped into the same voyage, sat side by side in ...

  • Musical Pairings: Zammuto – Zammuto
After the members of the New York City-based duo The Books disbanded last summer, co-founder Nick Zammuto had to ponder whether or not he wanted to continue his career as a musician. At the urging of his wife and close friends, he decided it was time to start penning new material for a different project, [...]

  • Music: Playlisted: Zammuto
We get a lot of records sent to us here at The A.V. Club . Fortunately, we end up liking some of them. In Playlisted , we share our latest recommendations. Album: Zammuto by Zammuto (out now on Temporary Residence Ltd.) Press play if you like: The Books;  The Avalanches;  pop songs that delight through confusion and contortion Some background: Nick Zammuto was the sweet-voiced half of multimedia art-pop collagists The Books, at least until that duo woefully called it quits after four progressively refined albums of WTF samples, soft singing, and pleasurable tangents. Going solo from his home in Vermont ...

  • Zammuto – Zammuto
Nick Zammuto is just one of the found sound savants  (Paul de Jong being the other) behind The Books, the celebrated, now departed band pioneering in its cutting and splicing of folk chops and bizarre vocal recordings from archives no other group would consider plundering. Part of what made The Books so strange and novel [...]
