Mix Tape: MY MIXTAPERequested by jamal • Compiled by Alice of New York Your oh-so-specific title doesn’t really give much to work with, but I decided it could be interpreted as, “Make me a mixtape to be my personal anthem/soundtrack”. I tried to select songs which, together, form a theoretical depiction of “you” as as seen by a complete stranger. Dearest “MY MIXTAPE”, you appear to be individualistic (emphasis on “MY!”), passionate (ALL CAPS!), and taken to flights of whimsy (in that you expect someone to be able to fill a request like ‘MY MIXTAPE’). I really want to love his new project, Zammuto. What I’ve heard so far doesn’t have the magic of Thought for Food , The Lemon of Pink , or Lost and Safe . Maybe the collage thing just isn’t new and mysterious anymore, but these tracks feel more frantic and less well crafted. I’m holding out hope; this track is pretty good. The Books Call It QuitsThe Books have confirmed that they are set to part company and work on separate projects. The Books were always a band out of time. In a literal sense, Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong built their music out of an enormous archive of old tapes, recording snippets of conversation from archaic radio shows. However alongside this, the duo's output made little sense within the wider musical community until the rise of Hypnagogic pop / chillwave. Zammuto: "F U C-3PO"The Books work on their own clock, so it was something of a relief when one-half of that team, Nick Zammuto, began regularly posting new songs from his Zammuto project on his blog last year. Zammuto (the guy from The Books who sings al ..Nobodaddy here, reporting from the trenches, where, for the past two months following my deft and dutiful reporting on The Books’ mastermind Nick Zammuto’s colorfully-titled Zammuto project and the release of its first single , I’ve been waiting outside his house in my 1993 Honda Civic to tease details about whatever release may be forthcoming from the man’s garbage cans. I haven’t showered since the YMCA kicked me out of their bathroom on Christmas Eve, and I’ve been surviving solely on a particularly long English cucumber and one of those “squeezable” bottles of jelly.
