The Bends

England

The Bends is the second studio album by the English alternative rock band Radiohead , released on 13 March 1995 by Parlophone . The Bends was produced by John Leckie at EMI's studios in London, and engineered by Nigel Godrich , who would go on to produce all future albums by the band... Read More

  • Retro Radiohead reduction
Youtube user QuintonSung has transposed the Radiohead albums OK Computer and Kid A in full, into 8-bit sound. The user who lists his interests as music, video games, sushi and Radiohead, has painstakingly combined three of those into 52 and 44 minute audio tracks, uploading them on youtube. They seem to have made a start on the band’s 95 album The Bends as well, with the tracks Planet Telex and Talk Show Host also finding their way into blip blop form.  The comments cry out for someone to make an accompanying video game – if you want to get started ...

  • The Fall Of The Outsider: Luke Haines
Where have all the outsiders gone? The savants, the nut jobs, the angel-headed hipsters fit to burn the heavenly cosmos of night? All are sadly lacking in the UK right now, with chequebook indie and dollar sign Grime bulldozing the fragile archicture of our pop heritage. Sometimes it feels like only a few genuine, bona fide outsiders are left. Luke Haines , therefore, is an endangered species. Creative lynchpin for The Auteurs and Black Box Recorder, his new book 'Post Everything: Outsider Rock & Roll' seems to profile the music industry just as the post-Millennial malaise set in. ClashMusic caught up with Luke Haines to define the fall of the outsider... - - - You’re obviously looking back on your own work now, do you see yourself sitting in a tradion of outsiders running through British pop music? Yes, absolutely. I’m not comparing myself, but people like John Cale, Syd Barrett, Kevin Ayers, especially those kind of people on Harvest Records maybe in the early ‘70s - which was a bizarre kind of setup where by people were seemingly allowed to do whatever the hell they like and there didn’t seem to be that much interest into taking off into the mainstream. In a way Hut Records was a bit like that with me, because I was very much shielded from the accountants. I think I’m one of the few people in rock ‘n’ roll to have an A&R; man who actually let me do what I wanted to. Remember, I was on Hut for 10 years ...

  • This Week in Music History: April 29 - May 5 ..
Filed under: News Kevin Winter, Getty This is hard to believe, but there was actually a time when people didn't take Radiohead seriously. Shocking, right? But back when their first album was named after a Jerky Boys reference ( Pablo Honey , look it up ) and their first hit was about being a weirdo ("Creep"), it was pretty easy to box Radiohead in as slacker Brit Beck / Pavement wannabes. Who knew then that same band would come out with the Bends (super-genius), OK Computer (slightly overrated), Kid A (intriguing), Amnesiac and those other records (1,000 monkeys playing with keyboards)? Well ...

  • Behind the Scenes With Mark Foster and A-Tra ..
Around this time last week, Converse dropped their latest "3 Artists, One Song" collaboration on the world, and to say it was a step up from their last works would be like saying OK Computer was a step up from The Bends. It blew their other collaborations out of the water. "Warrior" was the result of the teaming up of Mark Foster from Foster the People, New Zealand starlet Kimbra, and Montreal DJ A-Trak. Converse has released some behind the scenes footage where we learned that Kimbra was in Ge

  • Doseone (cLOUDDEAD, 13 & God) to release sol ..
As our knowledge of the Universe increases, a central question seems to loom even larger in the minds of physicists, astronomers, and non-scientists alike: if extraterrestrials exist, why is there no definitive case of them ever having made physical contact with us? Of course, I can already feel the tinfoil-hat wearers around Roswell, New Mexico, channeling their disagreement with my premise, and to a degree, they have a point; we do know of at least one alien life form who continues to shock and mystify human beings around the world. That would be Anticon co-founder and exemplar of eccentricity, rapper ...

  • ROCK, POP, INDIE MAGNIFICENCE
Was sitting in a cafe having a bite to eat the other day.  One of the staff was mucking about on a laptop creating a mix of music for the patrons to enjoy or endure.  All of a sudden, amidst the non-descript singer-songwriters with their whimsical ballads with a twist of indie-folk, this came blaring out:- mp3 : Radiohead - Bones It's the fourth track on the 1995 LP The Bends.   In some ways it is a sort of forgotten Radiohead classic. It is squeezed onto the album right after two hit singles - High And Dry and Fake Plastic Trees , and ...

  • Westboro Baptists Call Radiohead 'Mediocre' ..
Radiohead's concert last night in Kansas City drew in more than art-rock fans from throughout the Midwest. It also attracted a bunch of self-proclaimed religious folks known for picketing gay rights events, American troops' funerals, and Foo Fighters concerts. And the protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, even brought their own attempt at music criticism. (They still like The Bends , you just know it.) As At Ease points out, the protesters described the band as "freak monkey's with mediocre tunes," which is [SIC] on arguably multiple levels, depending on whether you're talking to a ...

The truth is that Thom Yorke is taking the ponytail look 2 such great heights, tricking 'over the hill cool dads' in2 thinking that a ponytail will make them relevant again.
