Here's our top five Tumblr posts from the past week. 1. No Doubt in the studio Gwen Stefani and co kick off a series of webisodes with "the recording of the track Push & Shove, a collaboration between No Doubt, producers Major Lazer and Jamaican artist Busy Signal". Sounds … interesting . 2. The Independent Label Market's playlist Independent Label Market , taking place in London's Spitalfields ...

  • The Sugarettes: Destroyers of Worlds
Mariska Louman , Joep van Son , Marjolein Kooijman & Marnix van den Broek are The Sugarettes , a noise pop garage band from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Their second full-length Destroyers Of Worlds is a collection of lo-fi songs with a sound and feel that is about halfway the Pixies and the B52s. Plenty of room for mistakes, but that's not a problem if you can incorporate them into the song and act if it was deliberate. This is a band that goes for the vibe and the groove. It's fast. And fun. Caveat: they like to use song titles that are ...

  • Interview with dave phillips: "Any form of d ..
The most important thing to convey about Dave Phillips is that he fuses rawness and intensity with meticulous composition, rendered with an indelible form of scarcity. Whether it is short, sharp, and sparsely explosive tracks, or what Ron Lessard called “Otto Meuhl having his way with Hermann Nitsche”, Phillips uses body sounds, amphibian field recordings, conventional musical instruments, or things like party balloons, with widely varied results, but most apparently as a means to “activate primordial shared emotions otherwise hidden by civilized experience”. Not limited to that, “dp” has been participating in various punk, hardcore, metal acts or projects that ...

  • Songs For A Future Generation
In one sense Athens, Georgia is your typical college town—40,000 students thrown into a town of 100,000 or so people, always in flux, always the same—but in a musical sense the place is extraordinary. You’d have to go 1000 miles west to Austin, or 1000 miles northeast to New York City, to find a music scene that even begins to compare to Athens, a town that’s half the size of Swindon, and one-eighth the size of Nottingham. For better or worse, the history of Athens music—The B-52’s, Pylon, R.E.M., Oh-Ok ...
