  • Jennifer Herrema Talks Avalanches Collaborat ..
MP3:> Black Bananas: "Rad Times" Indie vet  Jennifer Herrema is a proponent of the saying: If you don't like what they're saying about you, change the conversation. When listeners didn't quite take to JJ Got Live RaTX , the last album from her metal/psych-folk act (and Royal Trux spinoff) RTX , she simply rebranded the group as Black Bananas . " Drag City owner Dan Koretzky and I thought: If it just stays RTX, will there be any kind of fresh look at it?", Herrema explained over the phone last week. "'Fuck it, people are stupid. Let's just change ...

Others hold less cultural esteem. In fact, to mention your non ironic love for Vegas, Sydney (said the Melbournian in glasses) and anything hosting a quarter, half or full moon party is up there with mentioning how much of a bitch your year nine home room teacher is. • New Music Video: Phenomenal Handclap Band ..
For anyone who hasn't had their fill of overt psychedelia this early today, fear not because indie psych-soul group The Phenomenal Handclap Band have released the newest single, "The Right One," off their upcoming second album Form and Control due 2/14 from Tummy Touch Records. The song itself sounds like a track from classic prog rockers Yes and the video is arguably the most strange and surreal thing you've seen since Collective">Animal Collective's "Summertime Clothes" or The Avalanches' "Frontier Psych

  • Most Anticipated Albums of Early 2012 by Eri ..
As a DJ, as well as the station’s music librarian, I love this time of year.  With the holidays behind us, we’re all now facing forward, looking ahead to all the great new music releases on the horizon.  And as always seems the case, they’re coming fast and furiously! Of course there are always whispers of long-anticipated albums finally seeing the light of day (The Stone Roses! Portishead! Mazzy Star! Spiritualized! Santigold! The Avalanches!),but here are some albums with firm release schedules that will definitely be tickling my eardrums in the ...

January Brisbane floods: As rising flood waters devastate Queensland, several venues within Brisbane’s CBD and Fortitude Valley entertainment precinct are forced to close and cancel gigs . Benefit shows are held across the country, however newly retired Powderfinger decline calls from local MPs to “dust off” their guitars for a once-off benefit show, choosing to release a single for victims instead. • Roku
A few days ago, beat maker Roku sent over his Music for Misfits album for a listen.  It's an ambitious project, a release consisting of 24 tracks which also includes three bonus songs.  Some of these are brief skits and interludes barely eclipsing the minute mark, but many are full-blow jams.  In this time, Roku packs tons of jazz-influenced, hip-hop instrumentals into a singular package that brings to mind J Dilla's  Donuts .  In many of Roku's Facebook photos, he's pictured digging through crates and testing records to find the perfect mix for a beat, as well ...
