  • The Festival Diaries: The Great Escape in Br ..
As I sit down to scribe my look back at my first trip to Brighton for The Great Escape, I’m travelling on a bus from London to Liverpool, about to hit the ground running for the third music festival of this trip. Heading overseas to a music festival is nothing new for me, but it’s certainly nothing I take for granted. It’s an incredible opportunity to see some of the best talent in the world – new, upcoming and established – alongside our own Australian artists trying to make it in unique settings and locations.  Before I get onto ...

  • New music: Radioblue – Take Me Home
Here's a pair of Poles whose music cuts like the Knife You get the impression that Polish siblings Radioblue , aka Sylwia van der Wonderland and Rob Kubicki, spend a long time perfecting their slowburn electronica. Sylwia lists her influences as soft electronica, new disco and space disco, while Rob calls himself a "sound designer" influenced by Tibetan Buddhist chants. This attention to detail is evident on their debut release, Take Me Home, which certainly has the otherworldly feel you'd expect from something that proclaims itself to be space disco. There's an intricacy to how the soft beats ...

  • The Great Escape 2012 // The 405 Review
The 405 team was out in force for The Great Escape this year, so rather than bringing you a band-by-band account of our time in Brighton, our editors/writers have chosen their five favourite bands from the event. Who came out on top? Read on to find out... Photos by Tim Boddy James Canham Swords">Forest Swords - Tim and myself arrived partway through Swords">Forest Swords set (they started at the same time AlunaGeorge finished) to a stunned and mostly silent crowd. The two of them on stage (one at the mic, laptop and electronics and another on the bass ...

  • Live: Teary of Eye; Bereft of Speech. Perfum ..
Sacrilegious or sardonic as it may be on behalf of the bookers of Brighton or elsewhere (re: the latter tonight's spotlights are of exclusively satanic hue), whether ardent believer, agnostic or outright atheist there's incontestably no better venue than your local House of the Lord. Yet a four pack ring strewn before the altar and a bar at the back demonstrate a slight disregard for location and indeed this divine setting ensures the unshakably uncomfortable sensations of any given Sunday are immediately imitated upon entrance. That hideous gut-wrench signalling an imminent return to the institutionalised authority education provides ...

  • FOLK SONGS FOR SPACE ALIENS
Two free albums that sound good played at the same time: Dr. SETI (aka Dr. H. Paul Shuch) sings songs about his namesake and day job, the Search For Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence.  Book him for your next party!  He considers himself a singing ambassador for the hunt for little green men, and his acoustic folk tunes, some parodies of oldies like Patsy Cline's "Crazy" or John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads," are brimming over with not only his deep faith in the existence of aliens, but with endearing enthusiasm, and an endless parade of hopelessly obscure inside references ...

  • Jack Savoretti – Take Me Home
Jack Savoretti has been on our radar for a good long while now. Having interviewed him around the release of his second album back in 2009, we’ve watched him go from strength to strength as he played a series of sold out London shows and landed songs on prime-time American TV shows like One Tree [...] Jack Savoretti – Take Me Home was originally published on The Blue Walrus

  • Maximo Park: "Hips And Lips" – Neue Single d ..

  • Live: Rugged; Ready. Deaf Club, Queen of Hox ..
It's still a little sweltering come seven and the dulcet tones of a slapdash ukulele ensemble interpreting Neil Diamond's perennial schmaltz fest Sweet Caroline glide out the door of the Queen of Hoxton , out into the humid airs of east London. To recur to that oft-rebuked British tendency to explicate the meteorologically obvious it's irrevocably glorious for late March. However hailing from the rugged, precipitous lands of North Wales few luminescent rays may conceivably have struck members of this particularly exclusive  Deaf Club  (it numbers just five) and perhaps resultantly, their all too infinitesimal slot supporting previously ...

  • Maximo Park announce new album, 'The Nationa ..
North Eastern rockers Maximo Park are set to return with their fourth album this summer, entitled The National Health (released June 11th). The band are hoping this new LP reflects the mood of a country (hopefully) exiting a recession. Frontman Paul Smith had this to say about the new record: "We’re in a global recession and everyone is being bombarded with bouncy, happy music” he explained, “The nation is out of control and the record is about taking back control, and being a force for change in your own life. It can’t speak for everybody but it has ...

  • Maximo Park Return With New Album
Maximo Park are set to return this summer, releasing new album 'The National Health' on June 11th. An enduring indie success story, Maximo Park have managed to outlast most of their contemporaries from the Class of 2005. Shifting with the times, the band are to return this summer with an album which aims to reflect the mood of the country. Presciently titled 'The National Health', Maximo Park will release their new album on June 11th. The band's fourth full length to date, the material is seemingly informed by a post-recession environment. “We’re in a global recession and everyone ...
