  • Terry Radigan: The Breakdown of a Breakup ..
photo: Craig Blankenhorn NYC singer Terry Radigan broke up with the guy after a 20-uear relationship. Her new labum The Breakdown of a Breakup serves a therapy set to music: eleven songs about grief, loss and anger. Recorded at the Catherine the Great studio Radigan switches between soft-spoken jazzy tunes ( Beautiful Lie , brass-driven music hall ( Mistake ), country ( I Dont'Feel Like That ) and even a NOLA vibe ( Voodoo ). With her lightly husky voices, sounding as mix between Karin Bergquist (Over The Rhine) and Bonnie Raitt, she analyses what went wrong, being pretty pissed that her guy slept with another woman ...

  • The Jealous Sound: A Gentle Reminder
The Jealous Sound A Gentle Reminder Music Is Subjective [2012] Fire Note Says: A solid melodic rock return after nine years for The Jealous Sound. Album Review: I am sure that nine years in the music business probably equates around 100 years in the real world but that is how long it has been since The Jealous Sound released their critically praised debut Kill Them With Kindness [2003] . The group's sophomore follow up, A Gentle Reminder , is a sonic success and sounds like the band never took any time off with its soaring guitars, strong emo grooves and frontman ...

  • News: Heatwave Update: ‘Majority Of Supplier ..
In the wake of reports today that hip-hop festival Heatwave has been declared insolvent, its 24-year-old founder and CEO has contacted M+N to set the record straight. Describing coverage, which essentially reprinted a letter sent to festival contractors, as “brutally misleading and incorrect”, Patrick Whyntie wanted to clarify that “the majority” of suppliers, as well as all artists on the tour had been paid in full. Those claims contrast a report by online magazine Music Feeds which stated that "no one is getting paid". “The company is in voluntary administration and the administrators will deal with the remaining suppliers ...

  • 2 albums from Alone Records; featuring Damo ..
I love getting weird stuff in the mail. And these 2 CD's that Racer sent me from Alone Records are pretty damn weird. I'd never heard of the label before but they've been around for 10 years and are based out of Spain. Their catalog ranges from experimental/psychedelic to more traditional rock and metal. Definitely a discography I need to explore a bit more. Getting back to the weirdness. Former Can vocalist Damo Suzuki is an acquired taste. His performances on classic Can albums like Future Days and Tago Mago (recently re-issued with a bonus live ...

  • EMO TO EXTREME: Vanilla Ice Tries His Hand A ..
What a metamorphosis  Vanilla Ice  has had. He started out as a rapper, at one point becoming one of the most popular hip-hop artists in the world. He then fell off, went on to do rock music and then fell off even harder by going to rehab. Eventually, he settled on just being a reality TV star.  Well now he's back, and he's doing music again. And we have to say ... it sounds pretty good! DETAILS: Vanilla Ice & Suge Knight Ain't Got No Beef OK, OK, OK, let's stop playing around here. He's not really ...

World Service Project are to be part of the line-up of a dozen of Europe’s new cutting edge jazz and improvising bands and artists to gather at the 12 Points! festival next month. Innovation is the watchword for the festival, the brainchild of the forward thinking Improvised Music Company, headed up by musician and broadcaster Gerry Godley. 12 Points! moves around Europe choosing new, often little known, bands who have sparked initial word of mouth interest to represent their countries informally at the annual fest. Previous 12 Points gatherings have been held in the Irish capital Dublin and the ...

  • Simply Ded "I Had You"
This plodding bass tune comes courtesy of 18-year-old producer Simply Ded , a Manchester-based beatmaker who will be releasing his debut record next month via the ADD Cat imprint. The main focus of the song is the vocal sample, which starts off chopped into bits, but eventually fills out into an entire phrase. As the tune breaks down, the main bass note switches from the down beat to the up beat for an interesting effect, and the song ends with a chilled-out, head-nodding rhythm. Simply Ded's Problems EP (artwork above) drops on February 9, but you can stream a preview ...

  • Class Actress
"Keep You" MP3 from the album Rapprocher 2011 iTunes Class Actress' debut LP, Rapprocher , gives listeners two options for dealing with love trials. The first encourages you to sit in a room with the lights off contemplating the relationships of your past. The second suggests that you take those sad-ass feelings to a bar to dance until you finish an entire bottle of tequila or until the lights come on — whichever comes first. Frontwoman Elizabeth Harper sings about everything from love discovered to love lost over '80s electro-pop beats. Using various vocal techniques, which sometimes make it difficult to understand ...

  • On the Air: On Your Way Down
Little Feat : On Your Way Down [ purchase studio version ] Musicians and bands often do interviews on the radio, and these usually include in studio performances of songs from their current album. These performances have an immediacy to them that can compensate for the lack of polish that can come from hours spent polishing in a recording studio. Radio stations often lack the ability to host all of the technology that was used in the recording, so the musicians must show their versatility. As a result, a side of their music comes out that wasn’t on the album. This week ...
