  • Review: Wilding - Bird's Bread
Originally from Liverpool before moving with his family to Brisbane and later on his own to Melbourne, Justin Wilding Stokes doesn’t stray far from his first home when making music. Previous bands the Whistlestops and Isle of Man made no secret of his love for 1960s British music, but his solo debut as Wilding is positively steeped in Beatles, Beach Boys and Kinks. It taps the most whimsical side of those acts, finding playful instrumentation in kitchen utensils and other offbeat sources. So maybe we know what we’re in for, right from the kazoo and melodica of opener ...

  • Stream: Gulp
Super Furry Animals might seem like a weird fetish, but its just a psychedelic rock band from England. And while the band takes a respite between two albums, bassist Guto Pryce has created little side project called Gulp that's set to release a "7 of equally trippy music. If you liked SFA, it won't be hard to get into Pryce's single "Game Love." Both bands clearly like to experiment with more than just their music, and the product of their dabbling is cool electronic music with a haunting edge

  • Cian Ciaran (SFA) – ‘You & Me’ + Debut Solo ..
Cian Ciaran from Super Furry Animals is set to release his debut solo album, Outside In, on July 30th. The album is being released on his own Strange Town Records and will feature, among others, fellow Super Furries Daf and Guto. The first taste of things what to expect in July is ‘You & Me’, a song of lamenting lyrics with truly beautiful textures, [...]

  • On the Horizon: draflyncu, Gulp.
Alas, not a day goes by when the unspoken demise of the Super Furry Animals doesn't return to mind in order that it may cruelly torment round these parts. Head honcho Gruff Rhys has of course been more than accommodating over their absence, lavishing those enslaved in lament with a variety of wide-ranging side and lopsided projects (perhaps most notably last year's superlative Hotel Shampoo  solo effort ). This from SFA bassist Guto Pryce deviates rather more from paths collectively ambled however: a collaborative endeavour alongside Cardiffian Lindsey Leven, Game Love is a nostalgic joy bathed in a shimmering ...

  • Record Shopper // Record Store Day Special ..
Tomorrow sees the return of Record Store Day and so today we're going to focus on the wish list of records we'll be queuing up for tomorrow morning. With around 300 special releases this year it's a long list so we'll keep the synopsis of each choice short! Running through the list we spotted straight away Andrew Bird is releasing the double a-side 'The Crown Salesman/So Music Wine' on 10" orange vinyl, we like the look of that a lot. Canadians Azari & III release just 300 copies of 'Lost In Time/Indigo' on 12" while ...

  • MP3: JjANICE+ – “Aleas”
The infectiously upbeat "Aleas" borders on bubblegum-pop, though its hip-hop and Afro-pop influences are hardly hidden. It would fit extraordinarily on the Jet Set Radio soundtrack, where world genres collided for an infectious blend of sounds and stylistic hybrids. It's also not too far from the colorfully exuberant rock of Super Furry Animals

  • Mark Fry: An Assessment
These things take time. An English arts student, Mark Fry's wanderlust took him to Italy. Studying painting in Florence, the young musician was introduced to the record producer Vincenzo Micocci. Laying down a series of tracks in the summer of 1971, what emerged was named 'Dreaming With Alice'. Released the following year to almost no fanfare, Mark Fry had already left Italy by the time the album reached it's tiny audience. Yet - somehow - over the next three decades 'Dreaming With Alice' has developed a cult following. The record seems to define the strangeness, the eeriness of the Acid ...

Our buddies THE HORRORS partied with us at CAN’T SAY a few weeks back – check out their trippy new clip, an acid dripping animated piece replete with varicoloured patterns and the bands’ avatars.
