  • Passion pop has your name and number
    - For a cold October in Glasgow, you need to hear a record that sounds like the dizzy heights of a St. Tropez summer. And, you know, if the (Melbourne) band in question remind you of a grand day out, up North, where the wild catz roamed then, yes, it's so much the fucking better. Play loud! And bedroom dance! <3 - Summer Cats - 'In June'  (2.11) - Just a purrfect sound... meow . :) You can buy the long-player over  here . It is one of the best albums I own. Fact. -

  • Feature: Best Of The Rest: 2011
It’s been a vintage year for Australian music so far (check out our critics’ mid-year report if you’re not convinced), but there’s still plenty left in the tank for the remainder of 2011. The list below is likely to fluctuate and is by no means exhaustive, so feel free to add any omissions in the comments section below. (If we’re feeling generous we might even put them up.) In the interests of symmetry, we’ve decided to include the entire month of July. July What: Future Universe by Ron S. Peno and The Superstitions. When: July ...

  • Music Review: Eleanor Friedberger - Last Sum ..
Eleanor Friedberger Last Summer [Merge; 2011] by Ed Comentale Rating: Eleanor Friedberger keeps it nice and breezy on her first solo album, Last Summer . Taking a step away from the top-heavy production style and high-concept drama of the Fiery Furnaces sound, she’s crafted a pretty neat and mostly gratifying summer album — a summer stoop album, to be exact. A love letter to her adopted home of Brooklyn, New York, Last Summer is full of easy guitar riffs and smooth sax solos, all "ooh"s and "aah"s and "ba-pa-pa"s: just the kind of stuff to take the heat ...

  • A monthly mix: June 2011!
Featuring Rita Tushingham! Hi! Things are back in order and on time this month. Hopefully I will not be missing another whole month anytime soon! This month's mix is a 100% SUNNY SUMMER FUZZY JANGLE FEEDBACK FEST split almost 50/50 between old Summery favorites and brand new, soon-to-be Summer mix staples. The mix ends just as excitingly as it opens and it doesn't slow down much from point A to point B. Make sure you've got plenty of room to move around because this mix definitely requires some light dancing at the very least. LISTEN TO ...

  • Brave Irene - hit the grass running (2011) ..

  • The Golden Grrrls - beaches (2011)

  • There are times in love that you must be on ..
    - It's true that such obvious words have been said by a few commentators over the years: the one 'Giant' that William Beveridge  rather ignored in his famous 1942 Report was cynicism. Not in the original Greek philosophical sense, of course, but, instead, some of the more contemporary interpretations of the term and how the practical manifestations of cynicism came to rule, it seems, the fucking world. You know, 'jaded negativity' and all that FUN DAY jazz. It's quite easy to see why this destructive element should have a large Acme Corporation target written on its Road Runner back ...

  • Bilan 2010 (#5) : Top 25 Single
02. Fair Ohs - Hey Lizzy ...

  • News: Little Bands Redux
In inner-city Melbourne in the late ’70s and early ’80s, bands would form for the sole purpose of playing a few songs at a handful of gigs before disbanding. It was called the “Little Bands” scene – and it will be somewhat resurrected as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival over consecutive Thursdays, beginning tonight (September 30). Tonight’s show will see members of local acts, including Love Connection, Rat Vs. Possum, The Bowers, Digger & The Pussycats, the Emergency, The Summer Cats, The Parking Lot Experiments, Teeth and Tongue and The Devastations, form 14 “Little Bands”, who will collaborate on 15 ...

  • Feature: Smudge: ‘There’s No Pressure On Us' ..
As they enter their 19th year, Sydney’s finest slackers Smudge have never been busier, drummer Alison Galloway tells DARREN LEVIN . Smudge’s drummer Alison Galloway has a half-an-hour window before she has to pick up her daughter from childcare. The former Waterfront Records mainstay and host of MTV’s Didge Indie is peppy, congenial and has a sing-song quality to her voice that suggests she’s been spending a lot of time with a toddler. “I’ve got my three-year-old daughter at home most days, who I hang out with,” says Galloway, who also works part-time at a high ...

  • News: Smudge Announce First Tour In A Decade ..
The rumours of Smudge’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. With an average of at least 3.75 shows a year since 2001, new songs, a bout of reissues, live appearances in four time zones across two hemispheres and a new album slated for January next year, the Sydney/Maitland slacker pop trio are admittedly “firing on all cylinders”. In support of their “best of” compilation This Smudge Is True , Smudge will hit the road in October for their first Australian tour since 1999. The tour follows their second stint in Europe, 16 years after their first. Out now through ...

  • My Laundry Life
