A Familiar Yet Refreshing Sojourn Down Sonic ..I have had Television Youth , the ace record from Canadian punks Sonic Avenues , in my inbox for months (it came out in January). I was meant to post about it for The Styrofoam Drone (amongst a plethora of things - sorry Zac, I'll be back on top of things in the upcoming week!), yet it fell through the cracks (expect to see the Happy New Year/Nite Fields split 7" soon though). Joey Bada$$ and Rob Gulatte: Great Rappers W ..In the clip for "Survival Tactics," the best Nas-circa-1994 rap song of 2012 so far, Brooklyn's Joey Bada$$ and rappin'-ass friend Capital Steez invoke Occupy Wall Street, the lost youth gangsta flick Gomorrah , and golden era, gritty hip-hop gone DSLR. Joey is 17, which makes his rapping talent and presence particularly impressive — it also shows up the goofing off of the twenty-somethings in Odd Future — and does help explain why his rap name is so terrible. Something Men - Birdy Roof 7' (2011)Something Men est une formation anglaise que j'ai découverte par l'intermédiaire du blog Styrofoam Drone . Birdy Roof est la première référence du label EZPZ (ainsi que pour le groupe), une seconde devrait suivre bientôt. La Face A est un mid-tempo aux accents country, elle rappelle les Strange Boys du premier album, le son est twangy comme il faut, et la voix semble nous narguer. Neptune return from space with a new lineup, ..I remember studying the solar system in elementary school, circa third or fourth grade, maybe. I remember the project — the one where we each chose a planet and researched the hell out of it, then painted a few Styrofoam balls and stuck them in a shadow box. Something along those lines. Of course, for the sake of fairness (I suppose), we couldn’t choose our own planets. We had to draw slips of paper from a bowl. I drew Mars. Fuck Mars. Johnny Ill Band - in the wintertime (2011) ..Je ne sais pas grand chose sur Johnny Ill Band à part que je suppose qu'ils sont de Detroit comme le label X! records sur lequel sort ce disque. En tout cas cet ep est plutôt, les paroles sont assez drôles et la musique simple, mais je ne vois pas ça comme un défaut mais au contraire comme une qualité. "In the wintertime" et "Matt Larson" ont des qualités pop sous leur apparence relativement rêche, ce sont mes deux titres favoris.
