  • Andy Poxon Band - Red Roots
Child prodigies.  Most don’t measure up to Mozart.  Then, again, how many kids do you know were composing and performing before royalty at five years old?  Amadeus may have been the exceptional exception.  The ultimate musical genius of all musical geniuses. There have been others, especially guitar-based bluesmen and rockers.  Jonny Lang released Smokin’ when he was fourteen years old and had his first hit album, Lie To Me, at sixteen.  Kenny Wayne Shepherd was wailing on stage with blues greats when he was thirteen.  By the time he was eighteen he already had a top ten single. Add ...

Life is funny. Every day can be an adventure. You work hard all day and then you spend your nights and weekends pursuing your hobbies and passions. And it all seems to be pretty much the same ol’ thang… And then one day you meet a special someone. You date, fall in love, get married…and eventually the “kids question” comes up. You both agree the time is right and so you decide to “try.” And the next thing you know, she’s pregnant and your whole world is about to get turned upside down, inside out and be full ...

Gary Clark Jr. is no overnight sensation, but he’s certainly turning out to be sensational. Just shy of his 28th birthday, the blues revivalist has earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan as his career has been incubated by key players in the Austin music scene. Last year he toured with Eric Clapton, [...]

  • Gary Clark Jr.
Gary Clark Jr was born and raised in Austin. He's been performing in clubs around Austin since he was a teenager, and vwas embraced early on by the legendary promoter Clifford Antone, owner of the blues club Antone's. Through Clifford's connections, Clark sat in with and learned from a wide variety of modern-day guitar greats. He's been voted the Best Blues Musician and Best Electric Guitarist in Austin, and called the most talented Texas guitarist since Stevie Ray Vaughn. Gary Clark Jr's popularity has skyrocketed over the past couple of years, strengthened by performances at ...

  • The History Of The Blues: The Roots, The Mus ..
Product Details Paperback: 320 pages Publisher: Da Capo Press (September 2, 2003) Language: English ISBN-10: 0306812967 ISBN-13: 978-0306812965 Book Description (from Amazon.com) Francis Davis's The History of the Blues is a groundbreaking rethinking of the blues that fearlessly examines how race relations have altered perceptions of the music. Tracing its origins from the Mississippi Delta to its amplification in Chicago right after World War II, Davis argues for an examination of the blues in its own right, not just as a precursor to jazz and rock 'n' roll. The lives of major figures such as Robert Johnson, Charlie ...

  • Gary Clark Jr. - Things Are Changing
Contributed by Trevor Meyer If you’re into blues, rock, and/or soul, you’re going to love Gary Clark Jr. His influences range from Stevie Ray Vaughan, to Snoop, to Cream, etc. Some of his more bluesy material such as “Bright Lights” and “Don’t Owe You A Thang” remind me of blues rock icons, Ten Years After and [...]

  • A fresh 100 best
Rolling Stone magazine has refreshed and revised its 2003 list of The 100 greatest guitarists of all time. Compiled with the help of over 50 musicians and industry figures the list still features the guitarist's guitarist Jimi Hendrix in the number one slot, but blues legend Robert Johnson has been dropped from the top 10, as have Ry Cooder and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Duane has also dropped from number 2 to number 9, while Keith Richards has climbed from tenth place to fourth. Here's the list...any suggestions? • R.I.P. Doyle Bramhall, Coworker to Stevie Ra ..
Houston Chronicle : Doyle Bramhall, a Stevie Ray Vaughan collaborator who helped write some of the most recognizable blues songs of the ‘80s including The House is Rockin’, died Saturday at his home in Alpine. He was 62. Bramhall’s career spanned more than 40 years, during which he provided the beat and the lyrics for a modern sort of rocking blues. Outside of Texas he was probably best known for his work with Stevie Ray Vaughan, who recorded numerous songs written and co-written by Bramhall. In Texas he was a draw on his own, a band leader with a gritty ...

According to the Forth Worth Star Telegram , the cause of death was "complications from pneumonia." • Heavy Glow - Midnight Moan
With her long red dreadlocks wrapped high up on her head, my hippy neighbor from across the street stops by for a visit. "Who's that?" she asks as soon as she walks through the door and hears the excellent blues-rock pumping from my speakers. She notices the tunes before I let her in because I have the volume up pretty high. I'm surprised I hear her knock. "Where are they from? I could totally hear them on the radio." "I know. Right? They're called Heavy Glow ," I tell her after turning the groovy-ass song down just enough ...
