  • Stream: Fun.
We're inordinately excited for the next LP from Fun.. Lead singer Nate Ruess has penned some of our favorite pop-rock from the last decide (in The Format with 2003's Interventions + Lullabies, and 2006's Dog Problems), and guitarist Jack Antonoff adds some nice guitar prowess (fresh from his band, Steel Train). Fun. is consistently pegged as just that (fun!)-- giddy vocals mixed with big, swooping progressions and awesome instrumentation, putting the theatricality of bands like Queen back in ps

  • Fun. – “We Are Young” ft. Janelle Monae (Aco ..
There’s nothing quite as fun right now as being Nate Ruess, Jack Antonoff, and Andrew Dost. Ruess (formerly of The Format), Antonoff (of Steel Train) and Dost (of Anthallo), make up the musical trio, fun.—and yes, their name is rendered … Continue reading →

  • Out and About: fun.
Naming your band fun. is one way to ensure rhetorical value, but the trio of Nate Ruess (The Format), Andrew Dost (Anathello) and Jack Antonoff (Steel Train) don't really need it—they prove time and again that their combined power of pop-rock prowess speaks for itself. At their sold-out Bowery Ballroom show, and with a small army of backup musicians armed with keyboards, strings, and horns, the band is quickly moving their creations from amiable side project to full-on mainstream assault.

  • Watch: fun.
Catch a first look at fun. in the recording studio piecing together their album out next year by Fueled by Ramen. fun. was formed by frontman and leading vocals Nate Ruess, formerly of The Format, Andrew Dost of Anathello and Jack Antonoff of Steel Train. These three heavy hitters in the field of good acoustic pop that I loved so much in middle school are bound to create radio-ready, catchy and emotionally potent songs. Watch how their sweet, poised, and effortless melodies are due to honest h

  • Fun. – Artist You Should Know
Jason Bentley has been all over the new single from Fun., which features KCRW favorite Janelle Monae. I decided to reach out to the band’s guitarist/ co-frontman Jack Antonoff (also of Steel Train) and find out a bit more about them, including how the excellent “We Are Young” came about. First, the song: fun.: We Are Young ft. Janelle Monáe by Fueled By Ramen 1) OK, simple but obvious question first: How did this band come about? Nate (Ruess, formerly of The Format). and I met on tour in 2004. ...

  • PropertyOfZack Review : : The Summer Set
It seems that bands, just like people, go through an aging process. There’re the early years, full of naiveté and a wide-eyed view of a world redolent with new ideas and no limits. There’s adulthood, the steadied maturity where all the identity questions have been answered and honing skills, perfecting through little tweaks, takes primacy. There’s old age, the perpetual victory lap where mere survival is grounds for celebration (and no short dose of nostalgia).   On Everything’s Fine , The Summer Set have hit their awkward teenage years. Like a teen, sometimes they surprise you with what ...

  • Interview with Nate Ruess of Fun
Fronted and assembled by indie power pop icon and mastermind, Nate Ruess, the history behind fun. may sound more or less like the makings of any other offshoot-outlet rather than a supergroup side project. And maybe that’s all they expected in thebeginning. After the sudden split of Nate’s band in 2008, The Format, he approached friends Jack Antonoff of Steel Train and Andrew Dost of Anathallo for creative collaboration. The subsequent rapid rise to fame sprung forth from an undisputedly [...]
