A Familiar Yet Refreshing Sojourn Down Sonic ..I have had Television Youth , the ace record from Canadian punks Sonic Avenues , in my inbox for months (it came out in January). I was meant to post about it for The Styrofoam Drone (amongst a plethora of things - sorry Zac, I'll be back on top of things in the upcoming week!), yet it fell through the cracks (expect to see the Happy New Year/Nite Fields split 7" soon though). Good Riddance, Negative Approach, and more a ..The organizers of The Fest have announced a number of additions to this year's lineup. In addition to the previously announced bands , this year's edition will feature Good Riddance , Negative Approach , Rise">From Ashes Rise , The Bomb , Sonic Avenues , La Dispute , Captain, We're Sinking , City of Ships , Dukes of Hillsborough, Snakehealers, Billy & Joe and Party Drag. Sonic Avenues - Television Youth (2012)Over the past few years I've been lamenting the death of punk rock. Sure, there are still some great old war horses putting out new material (Bad Religion, Dropkick Murphys), but the young bands just aren't coming up behind them. Enter Montreal's Sonic Avenues and their sophomore album Television Youth. Rather than follow the trend and make the commercialized mid-tempo bubblegum, or almost as bed- EMO, that passes itself off for punk nowadays, Sonic Avenues reach back to the spirit of '77 for inspiration.
