Mystery Jets - Live At The O2 Academy, Brixt ..A warm Friday evening sees hoards of hipster kids piling into Brixton Academy for Mystery Jets’ headline show. The excitement is palpable. A swarm of twenty-somethings jostle for prime position, unknowingly sloshing their overpriced cider on unsuspecting passers-by. Album Review: Mystery Jets - Radlands (2012 ..Mystery Jets are back in full force with the release of their fourth studio album Radlands. The band has had promise since the beginning, following the steady success of their debut album, Making Dens back in 2006. The polished follow up, Twenty One, had an unmistakable air of success, while the slower build up of Serotonin left us all wondering what to expect next. MYSTERY JETS – Radlands(Rough Trade/Remote Control) Album number four brings a whole new era for the Londoners Radlands is the last hurrah for bassist Kai Fish and the beginning of the new Mystery Jets. OK, so maybe that’s an example of journalistic hyperbole, but for a band known for their quirky, shiny indie pop, jetting off to Texas and making an album veering on Americana is a little surprising. Hozac NationIve been remiss for not listing some killer Hozac releases lately (sorry Radar Eyes!), so I thought I would deliver a hefty spark of releases that are all ace, some incendiary... Let's start with one of the latter then. I have been a massive fan of Nice Face since Can I Fuck It? 's arrival that showcase the NYers' penchant for visceral punk noise abandon, and Inner Etwas (on Sacred Bones) was the culmination of this. Mystery Jets - RadlandsFor any band talented (and fortunate) enough to make it to a fourth album the pressure is on to deliver a career-high tour de force. Their sonic DNA has been already been revealed, blueprints have been established and the bar of expectation has been raised to a vertiginous high. Some bands revel in such pressure - ‘The Queen Is Dead’ and ‘Elephant’ were fourth albums that showcased The Smiths and The White Stripes on scintillating form. Sweepin' OffMy brain was heavily serotonin deficient from desert parties and what not but I finally mustered the energy to share some tracks. First off is an Italo boogie track from 1983 by High Resolution! As usual the vocals leave more to be desired but the bass line is fresh! This was composed by Paolo del Prete and Marco Fatali and was released on SPQR. High Resolution-Sweepin' Off Next up are my two favorite tracks from Glenn Jones' 1984 LP called "Finesse" which came out on RCA Records. Both tracks have pretty dreamy synthesizers and Glenn's voice is spot on ...Beat Electric19 April 2012

Maria and the Mirrors - Gemini Enjoy My Life ..The title track Gemini Enjoy My Life is a pure carnival of throat grabbing technoid. That sardined percussion and ecstatic vocal action surfing a modern take on Bow Wow Wow , but with the serotonin dial twisting the max... That awesome cyberdog bass charging through your chest like a viagra rhino whilst little cocktails of voice trickle the ears in some post Caribbean holocaust of disco… The curves are plenty here , a PVC leopard print gleaming with a messed up energy, that pulls over into some industrial makeover of a second track, Mudchute , a relentless pummeling of overdosed TG sickness. Review: Iowa - Never Saw It ComingWithin the first 30 seconds of Never Saw It Coming , Iowa have laid down a shag carpet of fuzz that sticks around for most of this first album. That opener ‘Complete Control’ cements the alternately lethargic and angsty delivery of singer-guitarist Dylan Stewart as well as the shadow of Dinosaur Jr and other ’90s rock luminaries. It weaves noise and melody in an endless gloom, the only brightness coming when Stewarts tries out a bit of falsetto at the very end.
