Salem

England

SALEM are made up of three members - John, Jack and Heather. SALEM is a band who’s ambition and influences stretch way beyond the normal confines; by way of Juke, footwork, chopped and screwed rap, black metal, classical music and fallen pop stars, SALEM create a dark, new, ghostly w... Read More

  • Forgotten Gems: R.U. Deadly-Various Demos ..
This particular Forgotten Gem is going to be a little different. For one thing Salem, Ohio's R.U. Deadly were never able to secure a record contract. The band, which was active from 1987 to 1998, released three demos ("Burial at Sea" in 1990, "Into the Light" in 1992 and "R.U. Deadly" in 1995) and shared the stage with such acts as Manowar, LA Guns, Bruce Dickinson (solo tour), Chastain, Blue Oyster Cult, Slaughter, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Noisy Mama, and Pat Travers. Despite a sizable cult following and positive press this four-piece remained unsigned. While a reunion did ...

  • New Sounds Of The North
This Friday in Manchester plenty of people have left the office and decided to begin their hedonistic weekend by, well, heading to the office. The city’s leading promoters, Now Wave, have curated a line-up of emerging northern talent to showcase on the first floor of a derelict office block. With a bill topped by Leeds’ Alt-J and two elusive Mancunian acts preceding, – No Ceremony and Money – it’s clear they mean business. Tonight feels like a secret gig that only the cognoscenti are privileged enough to know about. Quay House is on the outskirts of Spinningfields, a financial district ...

  • Ritualz - Outworld Music I [EP]
Culturally in Mexico, Witchcraft is a very common thing. After Ritualz composed Ghetto Ass Witch last spring he has developed a strong hate and irritability when speaking about witch house. "If you want to listen to 'witch house' do a soundcloud search for the endless Salem clones, you're not...

  • Week 59: Sleigh Bells (Treats)
Let’s just say this week’s theme is Bands/Musicians You’ve Heard Of But Might Not Have Taken The Time To Listen To. I keep on finding myself drawn to the bigger names on my iPod rather than the little ones this week and I don’t know quite why. (Though there were a couple of big name releases this week…) Don’t worry, the “little names” will get their time in the spotlight! Monday I featured the Ibiza-influenced Spanish electropoppers, Delorean . Yesterday I featured the futuristic and terrific Janelle Monáe . Today I’m featuring Sleigh Bells: a ...

  • Witch Mountain: "Aurelia"
Portland doom quartet Witch Mountain 's third album Cauldron of the Wild , is out June 12 on Profound Lore . It follows 2011's South of Salem , a collection that emerged a decade after the band's debut, Come the Mountain . There's a lot of history to cover here, but the most important thing to happen in the years before Salem was the addition of vocalist Uta Plotkin in 2009. Her soulful voice was the focus of the 2011 record, and she does an incredible job again on Cauldron , the first collection that finds new bassist Neal Munson joining co-founders ...

  • Ghosting Season - The Very Last of the Saint ..
Ghosting Season are Gavin Miller and Thomas Ragsdale, a Manchester based electronic music duo, and The Very Last of the Saints is their debut album under this name, although they did release an album a couple of years ago as worriedaboutsatan. Whereas worriedaboutsatan sat somewhere between ambient music and instrumental post-rock such as Mogwai, Ghosting Season lends itself more towards steady beats and electronic dance music. However, there are only subtle differences between each act and this album actually seems to bring both projects together, and instead of coming across as a debut album this could easily be seen as ...

  • Myrtle Beach Bike Week Events 2012
May is here and when you're in Myrtle Beach that means only one thing: Bike Week is Back! It's been a tumultous spring and the dates of this year's rallies have been a thing of much dispute locally, with some organizers from the Harley-Davidson rally wanting to move their rally closer to Memorial Day weekend and the county threatening to not issue vendor permits before giving in in the end. The "official" rally dates for the Cruisin' The Coast Spring Rally are now May 14-20, with many businesses also hosting events the previous weekend. On the other ...

  • oOoOO – Love Is Hurting Us [EP]
Anyone into their electronic music will probably have probably come across tri-angle records. And if you haven't, then you're missing out on some of the most forward thinking and innovative sounds around from the atmospheric (Balam Acab) to the more experimental (Evian Christ, How To Dress Well) and the simply jaw-dropping (Clams Casino, Holy Other). Producer Christopher Greenspan (otherwise known as oOoOO ) slotted quite nicely into the tri-angle roster upon the release of his debut self-titled EP back in 2010. In fact, many cite that EP as a key staple of the tri-angle sound and the movement largely ...
