VOODOO HIGHWAY Enter Studio for Second Album ..Italian hard rockers Voodoo Highway announce that they will be back in studio to record their second album at the end of this month. On the Horizon: Alpine Warble, Swiss Alps. ..If we've become preprogrammed to a large extent to all too often merely hock up scarcely reconfigured regurgitations of meticulously scribed press releases, no such exercise may be applied to Swiss Alps purely as there's next to no information available. Anywhere. They're to release a four-track EP at some point next month on Pyramid Lake , while their Bandcamp tags suggest they originate from Pennsylvania and that they're keen on maintaining an outwardly lo-fi aesthetic. Swiss Alps: Riptide Lore Nothing is known ab ..Swiss Alps : Riptide Lore Nothing is known about these Pennsylvania guitar pop merchants, aside from the fact that ‘ Riptide Lore ’ was put up on bandcamp as a means of “snagging” the band name (and it’s a sweet band name, I agree). The song itself is the vital ingredient for a perfect day; gorgeous guitar lines shift in and out of tune mercilessly, as hushed vocals swelter in the background. Beirut - The Riptide (2011)There's no denying that Zach Condon's Beirut have endeared themselves to many an indie music fan over the past couple of years. Somehow though, I've just not been able to get into it. I find the music pleasant enough, even beautiful at times, however there's something there that prevents me from embracing it fully. Will that trend change with the group's forthcoming third album, The Rip Tide, which comes out on August 30th? In a short, not really. Frank Alpine - Frank AlpineThe electro genre might be a little overplayed, but thankfully there are enough variations in Frank Alpine 's music to make it stand a few inches taller than his congeners. Whether the disaffected vocal delivery in 'Heart is Grey' or the frantic pace of 'Night Sky' (which sounds like the perfect soundtrack for a car chase), he manages to create a slightly dark atmosphere for his self-titled debut album. It's amazing that all the different shades of electronic moods come from the wallet-friendly Casio keyboards, showing that it's ingenuity and not budget what makes music rewarding. Watch: Long Pond - "Not Giving Advice"Sure, 14 minutes sounds like a pretty hefty commitment, especially for a music video (really more a short film) featuring ambient drones and water sports. But this is worth it. Unlike a lot of the internet’s average muck, “Not Giving Advice,” produced by Broken Machine Films , shows us images so specific and so well managed that, while still weird, one can chart a real aesthetic arc over this film’s quarter hour.
