  • Remix Religious Girls’ ‘Midnight Realms’ 12″ ..
For my money, “O.G.” represents a huge step forward for Religious Girls, blending the band’s noisier and more melodic impulses into one epic song. Recently, the band posted the stems both songs from the new Midnight Realms 12″ for would-be remixers. Take a listen to one new remix below: Religious Girls [...]

  • CATCH BASS DRUM OF DEATH ON TOUR WITH JAPAND ..
Bass Drum of Death is a two piece band from Mississippi composed of John Barrett on guitar / vocals and Colin Sneed on drums. Together they make blown-out, blazing songs. Their debut LP is out now on Fat Possum Records. He wrote and recorded the whole record himself using drums, a guitar, a USB microphone, and a computer before teaching Sneed to play drums for the live show and beyond. The songs are about drugs, religious girls, panic attacks, mild to severe depression, Elvis appearing in your dreams and giving you advice, gravity bongs, and the devil living inside your brain ...

BAMM.tv sent us this video showcasing the powerful, rhythmic performance that Oakland’s Religious Girls delivered at our Phono del Sol festival in July. Here, the guys perform “OG,” one of two songs on the band’s new Midnight Realms 12″, out now on Fun Forever Campaign/Everbodies Stomached. Religious Girls’ next show is at the Hemlock [...]

  • The Daily Choice: Twin Steps - Junkie Song ..
I’m fairly shocked to hear that Twin Steps is a side project of Religious Girls, as I usually think of Religious Girls as some sort of strange mash-up between tribal music and post-punk and Twin Steps feels more like well-screamed doo-wop, pop.  But have no fear, Twin Steps and there blatting taste of horn are [...]

  • The Daily Choice: Religious Girls - OG
Religious Girls newest track “OG” (named for police shooting victim Oscar Grant) is a beautiful sprawling mess of a song.  It starts big - big drums, big synth - and gets bigger and there is chanting and just when you think it’s going to crest and collapse and end, it evolves.  The drums, the synth, [...]

  • Religious Girls 12" on the way
We hate to see a good band name fall by the wayside, but that's not the sole reason we're excited about Religious Girls' Midnight Realms 12". The last RG record was '09's Open Your Heart To Fantasy, which feels like ages upon ages ago. The Oakland three-piece is still spazzing out over synth and drum patterns, which is just how we like them - feral and bubbly. Named after Oakland Police casualty Oscar Grant, "OG" is the musical equivalent to a fireworks event,...

  • Religious Girls – “OG”
Religious Girls – “OG” The day after their awesome set at Phono del Sol, Religious Girls sent us this song off the band’s new 12″, Midnight Realms. The song is quintessentially RG: rhythmic, dynamic, melodic – hell, throw any “-ic” or “-ism” this band’s direction, and they could figure out a way to cleverly work it [...]
