Queensryche

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

In the early ’80s, Queensrÿche (along with Fates Warning) fused ’70s progressive rock with the screaming guitars and “heaviness” of metal to form a new genre: progressive metal. Dubbed “Thinking Man’s Metal” Queensrÿche influenced many of the later bands that would expand the genre e... Read More

  • TVD Live: M3 Rock Festival at MPP, 5/10-11 ..
May 10th and 11th marked the 4th annual M3 Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. People traveled from as far as Australia to relive the music of the decadent ’80s metal scene. Boasting bands such as Ratt, Queensryche, Dokken, Great White, Warrant, Skid Row, Night Ranger, and Kix, M3 had something for everyone, [...]

  • Confidence-Prelude
Metal Revelation 2012 Hailing from Sweden, members of this band had been in other bands here and there learning their way in the business. Eventually this band came together, but over the course of three year they went through line-ups changes and various other struggles before finding their way to recording. Now we get a four track album of progressive edged hard rock. I hear some Savatage, Queensryche and others. The production is very full and helps give each song a boost. The songs generally start fine, in fact they begin with some smooth melodies and engaging vocals. However, try ...

  • Order Of Nine-Seventh Year of the Broken Mir ..
Nightmare Records 2012 Pittsburgh's Order of Nine trace their roots back to the progressive/power metal band Templar. Under that name the band released one lone album ("A Touch of Winter's Discontent") before opting for the name change in 2001. Not sure what to make of the name as I wonder what the origin is for it. That is neither here nor there, but rather just an observation. Of interest though is this "useful" tidbit from the promo (in regards to lead vocalist Michael Degrena)-"with the dark voice of a Seven foot Vampyre, reminiscent of Peter Steele ...

  • FATES WARNING to Re-Release 'Inside Out' on ..
Fates Warning: a classic name not only on the Metal Blade roster but within the metal scene in general. In the course of our ongoing re-release series, the band's classic 'Inside Out' is another must have item. Fates Warning have always been one of the most influential bands within the metal scene. Being one of the founders of the progressive metal movement they have influenced the likes of Queensryche or Dream Theater among many others.

  • PropertyOfZack Road Blog : : This Is Hell ..
From Rick Jiminez: The next morning we drove to Jeremy Saffer’s studio where This is Hell were the band for a 6 person photo class Jeremy was teaching. We took a trillion pictures with Jeremy and his students, got a little nuts, had a good time and eventually everyone broke me down and I ate a donut. One of the students wanted this one picture of me holding these two prop guns which were actually real guns. I have never shot a gun in my life and felt like a poseur. When i saw the picture I stated I ...

  • Wardrum-Desolation
Steel Gallery Records 2012 Right after the Greek band Wardrum unleashed their debut album “Spadework” to the metal community they went back to work on the follow-up. With only a year removed from then to now this new release, "Desolation" is a step-up as far as follow ups go and an amazing display of highly skilled progressive power metal. Everything from the song writing to the album's artwork (which is a work of Piotr Szafraniec created specifically for Wardrum) to the band's new singer Yannis Papadopoulos (Until Rain, Crosswind) marks a step in the right direction. That direction ...

  • Half Notes: Def Leppard – Hysteria (1987) ..
My history with Def Leppard may have started with Pyromania, one of the greatest hard rock albums ever, but Hysteria holds a very special place in my heart. Like a couple of my other favorite albums of all time (Queensryche’s Operation: Mindcrime and Iron Maiden’s Seventh Son of a Seventh Son), it came along at just the right time — [...]
