  • Pop. 1280: Bodies In the Dunes (video)
This one’s quite a change of pace from all the ‘happy’ music posted earlier today (like 5 minutes ago). Pop.1280, the New York based dark wave/industrial punk band, released a video for Bodies In The Dunes – off their recently … Continue reading →

  • Pop. 1280- “Bodies In the Dunes”
Pop. 1280 put out a new music video directed by Jacqueline Castel, and all the lyrical references come together like a disturbing and horrifying puzzle. Yes, my review of the band’s latest album, the Horror, acknowledged the music’s dark, gritty edge; however, I never would have figured that this track was somehow in reference to [...]

  • POP. 1280 - "Bodies In The Dunes" [Music Vid ..
New York cyberpunks Pop. 1280 recently premiered their new video for "Bodies In The Dunes," their latest single. The video was directed by Jacqueline Castel, a hyper-talented director who makes tense, kinetic work under her Future Primitive production house. Castel's videos are stark and confrontational-she's created incredible work for Zola Jesus, Naked On The Vague, Blank Dogs, and a bunch of other pretty bleak and downbeat acts. The video is not for the faint of heart-it was based loosely on a Long Island serial killer who was responsible for murdering four prostitutes in cold blood and dumping their ...

  • Pop. 1280 – “Bodies In The Dunes” Video
The New York band Pop. 1280 make a grimy, scuzzy, entirely sinister variety of art-punk. So it only makes sense that director Jacqueline Castel would turn the video for their song “Bodies In The Dunes” into a ’70s-style mini-horror movie about a serial killer who buries his victims on a deserted beach. The video isn’t [...]

  • Record Store Day Delivers
Its been a couple weeks since the Record Store Day of 2012 left a crater like dent in everyone's wallet, yet it is still the stuff of legends. Here in Brisbane alone we had two record stores with great live performances - Rockinghorse had the amazing Blank Realm killing, whilst Tyms pulled out the big guns with two interstate bands being trumped by the might of No Anchor and Turnpike. I myself came away with some great vinyl, including the below (although I bought two of them over the internet - it still counts though, right?) Thrill Jockey had a few ...

  • Hopscotch Fest 2012: what you get when Zola ..
If only every city had a Hopscotch. Raleigh, NC’s big-big music festival has gotten even bigger this year, with the addition of historical (and possibly haunted!!!) sounding venues like the Long View Center, Memorial Auditorium and the Contemporary Art Museum to its 15 venues strong festival map. There are 175 artists playing this thing, people, with everyone from the likes of Class Actress and Baroness to Liars and Wagner">Mirel Wagner. This year is only Hopscotch’s third go-around, and already they’ve got swell headliners like Built to Spill, The Roots, and The Jesus and Mary Chain keyed ...

  • Dreams Like Ferns Decay Into Brutal Nothing ..
Holy fucking shit. Fern by Seattle's Dreamdecay is my favourite album right now, and it needs to be yours too. This is one inexorably torturous journey for someone slowly and not very subtly spontaneously combusting - and it is pure joy. This is what the Cenobites mean in Hellraiser , not that fucking box and the barb wire and the flaying of flesh!! Dreamdecay has tapped into that early Swans era that is utterly, unforgivably nihilistic, endeavouring to rend all matter asunder. This kind of brutality is not done often enough. Industrial drone doom Jesuscore? Don't quote me on it ...

It may be that we can’t actually will sea monsters and the like into existence, but Pop. 1280’s The Horror is a product of the same kind of twisted imagination that wishes that we could.
