  • News: Vale Negative Guest List’s Brendon Ann ..
Some sad news out of Brisbane with the tragic death of music writer and musician Brendon Annesley yesterday, aged 21. Annesley helmed two influential fanzines: Dirty Alleys, Dirty Minds , which he started as a teenager in 2007, and later Negative Guest List , which he edited up until his death. He published 33 issues of Negative Guest List since starting it in 2009, covering acts such as Kitchen’s Floor, Ghosts of Television, Naked on the Vague, Total Control, Pink Reason and Blank Realm. Annesley was also a member of Meat Thump and Brisbane’s “only punk band” White Cop with ...

  • Review: Kitchen’s Floor - Look Forward To No ..
One song is called 'Kidney Infection'. The record itself is Look Forward to Nothing . Matt Kennedy has been holed up and writing more brilliant tales of woe. It's fair to say his 2009 debut as Kitchen’s Floor, * Loneliness Is A Dirty Mattress is a modern downer classic, up there with Pink Reason's Cleaning the Mirror as far as records that nail self-loathing to the wall. There is a reason why people lost their collective shit over his despondent lyrics. They are amazing. Look Forward to Nothing could be darker/murkier and better. Like Cleaning the Mirror the ...

  • Pink Reason - Shit in the Garden
(Siltbreeze, 2011) Kevin de Broux: Pink Reason: 2007: Cleaning the Mirror : scotch tape epicness. Siltbreeze of course. Have you heard Cleaning the Mirror ? No? Yes? Either way, it’s worth revisiting/discovering. It’s sooooooooooooo good. Up The Sleeve by pinkreason Kevin de Broux doesn’t assemble Pink Reason albums very quickly. Pink Reason isn’t prolific. Cleaning the Mirror was six songs, was released in 2007. Four years later for a follow-up and we have, briefly, six more (though, to be fair, there were quite a few 7”s to account for).  I’m not complaining about the lethargic-seeming ...

  • EAT SKULL NEW ZEALAND TOUR
MP3: Eat Skull - Heaven's Stranger Our fav garage / proto-pop shredders Eat Skull are coming to New Zealand this week. Gnarling a wide range of both old (Gordons, Axemen, Dead C, Urinals, early Messthetics comps) and new (Psychedelic Horseshit, The Hospitals, Pink Reason) references together under their own cloud of weirded out distortion, Eat Skull's wretched excess comes out like some sewer-dwelling early Pavement hit or Clean song broken a hundred times over. • Pink Reason knows no brothers
Pink Reason, Shit in the Garden " height="1500" src="http://cdn.imposemagazine.com/__data/pink-reason-shit-in-the-garden-front-cover-cd-size.3.jpg" width="1500" />Pink Reason's new album Shit in the Garden is out. The one-sheet that accompanies the release boldly boasts that the songs on the release "will probably stay with you for the rest of your life." You can give that possibility a test drive with the deep fried and hyper-gazed "Sixteen Years". Sixteen Years by pinkreason And while he also claims that there his music has no sonic kin, you can certainly splendor in the blanket of warped distortion and melodic ...

  • Pink Reason release sophomore LP on Siltbree ..
Kevin "Epic" Failure and his Lazy Susan of musician-friends have been easing down the road since the release of 2007's Cleaning the Mirror ( TMT Review ), dropping a few tunes via 7-inch and cassette every now and then — mostly archival or live recordings, though there is new material on the recent Desperate Living EP on Almost Ready — and no one's quite sure why. Was it due to anxiety from all those critics hailing Cleaning the Mirror as a masterpiece of sloppy/isolated catharsis/swagger? Was it because we placed the album one spot ahead of Clipse on our "Favorite ...

  • Feature: In-Frequencies #2: Tough Troubles, ..
As part of a new series, TIM SCOTT rounds up the latest cassette, CD-R and vinyl releases – from Oi! to hardcore and noise. Bloodclot Faggots Hey Joe (Cassette, No Patience, 2010) Unholy hardcore from the City Of Churches that owes a lot to early-20s angst and hatred of security guards. The name confuses/alarms those not familiar with the homophobic tendencies of Bad Brains singer H.R., but confusing and alarming seems to be the modus operandi here. From what I can gather this dubbed tape only has one of their songs. The rest includes Jimi Hendrix doing a live ...

  • Feature: Super Wild Horses: A US Tour Diary ..
On their maiden tour of the US, Melbourne’s Super Wild Horses – AMY FRANZ and HAYLEY MCKEE – play Gonerfest in Memphis, hang out a smoky karaoke den in Philly and plan a hip-hop side project on a Statten Island Ferry. After an arduous flight where the fourth engine on our Qantas plane fails to start, we’re cruising through the air. The hands of time turn backwards and we arrive in the states before we even left. We have a five-hour stop-over in LA, made exciting by the appearance of a strutting Lady Ga Ga in a head to toe ...

Recommended Show: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2010 AIDS WOLF, AN ALBATROSS, & CHILD ABUSE @ CAKE SHOP 152 Ludlow St New York, NY 10002 $8, 8PM Normally, AIDS Wolf alone would be enough to recommend a show, no matter who was on the rest of the bill. However, with tonight's show at Cake Shop, even the early bands are worth making it out in time to see. Child Abuse performs first; probably a little after 8PM doors. Recommended Show: FRIDAY, AUGUST 13, 2010 JAVELIN @ WHITNEY MUSEUM 945 Madison Ave New York, NY 10021 FREE, 7:30PM The music news might be coming a little later than usual this morning (due to being up late last night watching a midnight premier screening of The Expendables ); we apologize for that. Also in the sleep deprived state, recommending a free show at the Whiney Museum might be a little foolish (the place is often crowded and disorganized, as it is not exactly suited for music performances), but Javelin 's live show is always great.
