Pink Floyd

The epic pop jam of Shadow Shadow Shade turns to jelly a little bit in the latest song from the Los Angeles sextet, “Maybe I Could Love.” The band’s 2010 debut album was described in turns as cinematic and “poperatic” — a rousing indie cocktail of Queen, Fire">Arcade Fire, Pink Floyd and the Mamas and [...]

  • Stormy Mondays: Ghosts of Jambands Past – Bl ..
Now for the first installment of the irregular Ghosts of Jambands Past series in over a year. Back in 2000, a collective of rootsy jam men decided to give a new treatment to the Pink Floyd catalog by covering the seminal psychedelic group’s material with a gutsy blues inflection. Blue Floyd was born. Featuring Johnny Neel, Berry Oakley, Allen Woody (on guitar, not bass), Marc Ford and Matt Abts, the Mule/Crowes/ABB offshoot quickly became one rowdy, nasty bar band, ripping through Roger Waters era Floyd with layers of organ and loud guitars, often with an accompanying sci-fi ...

  • I'd rather have a fight, than be alone tonig ..
It’s “the year of the bandcamp release,” my buddy Ky from All Media Reviews recently proclaimed in one of his pieces. There is absolutely no disputing that. It’s relatively simple for any artist to upload their own music, spread the word about the page’s existence, and get a few downloads… heck, even purchases! The wise music aficionado knows that by purchasing music from bandcamp, they are directly supporting the DIY musician who created it; this music aficionado also understands that they can unleash their inner audiophile and decide if they want the music in 320 kbps MP3 ...

Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young - Fire Inc. (mp3) Out of the Frying Pan (And Into the Fire) - Meat Loaf (mp3) I’m about to make a statement that might immortally rankle some of BOTG’s most loyal readers and it’s co-creator beyond repair: No one ever maximized the power and rock piano awesomeness of Roy Bittan like Jim Steinman. The E Street Band’s “Professor” and a happily-hired gun who has played for dozens of artists over the years is the kind of pianist that makes kids like me love the piano and hate piano teachers ...

  • MP3: Lia Ices
When we're younger, it is easy to find Pink Floyd's most accessible and straight-forward tracks as the most enjoyable. "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2" may be one of Floyd's most dark and sinister tracks but the chorus of children singing and its catchy lyrics means it's the one Pink Floyd track everyone knows, and before grunge or emo came around, "Comfortably Numb" was the perfect teenage angst anthem. Yet, the older you get, the more fun you can have exploring the psychedelic and ambient s

  • Album Review: Django Django
Django Django defy description. Trying to pin down their sound is akin to the old fairground game of whacking plastic moles with a hammer. The minute you think you’ve got it another one of the fuckers pops up. Within the first 20 minutes of this joyous, surreal album the band have shoehorned cosmic disco, dubstep bass wubs, Beatles harmonies, Spaghetti Western guitars and stomping glam rock rhythms into some riotous sense of order. It shouldn’t make sense. Styles explode into each other- the looping tropical disco of Zumm Zumm giving way to the delicate fireside folk of Hand ...

  • Lia Ices - "Little Marriage" (Music Video) a ..
If there's one record that I had to choose for not getting its due last year, it would probably be Lia Ices Grown Unknown .  Perhaps its because the Brooklyn-based chanteuse creates languid songs that take a while unravel themselves.  As on "Little Marriage" the spareness is deceiving and often disjointed.   Lia Ices Official "Little Marriage" Video from Secretly Jag on Vimeo . On "Wish You Were Here," Ices's voice seems to whip around (stereo is a necessity here) transforming Pink Floyd's classic plaintive ballad into a siren song.

Brooklyn singer Lia Ices has releases a new video for Little Marriage , a track from her Grown Unknown album. Her new single Wish You Were Here b/w Late Night is released as a 7"and digitally on March 4 on Jagjaguwar . ( Lia Ices - Wish You Were Here ) The Pink Floyd classic has been hanged and quartered by hordes of talentless buskers and god awful cover bands. Her take is quite good actually and for the B-side she throws down an interpretation of Late Night of Syd Barrett's The Madcap Laughs . Makes perfect sense - Wish You Were Here is ...
