  • The Chieftains record with Bon Iver and The ..
Dublin based old timers The Chieftains have been plying their trade in spritely Irish folk for more than 5 decades now. Of course they have. Look at their photo. Having recorded more than 40 albums (40! Stone Roses hang your head in shame..!) the band have decided to take on a whole new direction—the indie collaboration. Thankfully disregarding clunking dunces Westlife, The Chieftains have opted to record with a more refined calibre of artist, and forthcoming album Voice of Ages will feature, amongst others, Bon Iver, The Decemberists and Paolo Nutini. Despite only racking up one appearance in the ...

  • Coldplay Voted Best Festival Headliner 2011 ..
Coldplay have been voted the best headline festival act of 2011 by 6Music listeners. This summer saw the festival season come under increased scrutiny. High profile figures such as Michael Eavis cast doubt over whether the summer season could continue in its present format, with the calendar reaching saturation point. Yet for fans, the choice has never been better. Cheap flights are placing more and more European festivals within touching distance, while the British season is packed with a varied array of live music events. Casting their eye over the line ups for some of the country's biggest acts ...

  • Feature: The Panics: ‘We Dedicate Ourselves ..
Themes of dislocation and homesickness abound on The Panics’ new album ‘Rain On The Humming Wire’, but no matter the personal cost, singer Jae Laffer tells DARREN LEVIN they’re in this for the long haul. Perth will always lay claim to The Panics, but for time being, Melbourne is the place that feels most like home. The band shifted here six years ago following the release of second album Sleeps Like A Curse , so tonight’s show at The Corner Hotel – the were midway through an east-coast mini-tour when M+N caught up with them in July – feels like ...

  • Latitude Festival 2011
Friday With its luscious, wooded setting, facepainting and family friendly vibes, Latitude is undoubtedly more privet hedge than cutting edge. Look beyond the Tunstalls and Rumers heading up the main stage though and the line-up boasts more than its fair share of intriguing newcomers. Brown Brogues on Huw Stephens’ astutely programmed ‘Lake Stage’ for instance, do more than ape the White Stripes in name with a rough’n’ready scamper through crud streaked ram-a-lama garage, howls of uncontrollable feedback and brutal, rudimentary tubthumping. Hipster thrills continue in the Word Arena with Deerhunter and all credit to the promoters for snaring ...
