2011: Μουσικά κομμάτια, part 1Επιτέλους, ήρθε η στιγμή που περιμένατε! (Το ξέρουμε ότι δυσκολευόσασταν να κοιμηθείτε τελευταία!) Μετά από επανειλημμένες ακροάσεις σε λίγες εκατοντάδες δίσκους και μερικές χιλιάδες τραγούδια, μπορούμε πλέον να βάλουμε καπάκι στο μουσικό 2011 και να δούμε τι μας έμεινε περισσότερο. Και μας έμειναν, όπως θα δείτε σε αυτό και τα επόμενα ποστς, πολλά. Τα κομμάτια που μας άρεσαν ήταν πάρα πολλά οπότε το να ξεχωρίσουμε (και να γράψουμε για) τα κορυφαία 60 δεν ήταν καθόλου εύκολη δουλειά, αλλά δεν θέλαμε να αδικήσουμε κανένα απ'όλα όσα μας κράτησαν συντροφιά σε μια πολύ γεμάτη χρονιά. QA w/ Megan BoyleRecently read a book in PDF form, it's called Selected Unpublished Blog Posts of a Mexican Panda Express Employee. It's all blog posts, mostly true. If someone were to ask me if I liked the book, about 90% of the time I would respond with "yes, I most definitely did," and the other 10% of the time I would respond with, "you know, overall, it was enjoyable." Panda Bear: Surfer’s HymnSam Fleischner, of the video production team m ss ng p eces , directs the new video for Panda Bear's "Surfer's Hymn," and it's every bit as trippy as the song deserves. Somewhere between Mexican Day of the Dead and a surrealist version of the classic surf film Endless Summer , and shot in grainy black and white, it's an excellent contrast to Panda Bear's explosion of color. Primavera Sound 2011 - SaturdayWe arrive at the Parc del Forum for the last full day of live music to be greeted with the sounds of Yuck’s ‘Get Away’ floating over to us from the ATP stage. They sound great, and must be loud for us to hear them from the entrance. Running down to catch them, we make it in time for them to break into ‘Rubber’. The plodding, bleached scuzz of guitars is the perfect soundtrack to the dipping of the late afternoon sun. New releases for the week of February 22, 20 ..There are plenty of exciting releases this week--it's been a great year for music so far! Tera Melos and Tim Cohen both double-up with albums and EPs out this week. Eagle and Talon hopefully got their Kickstarter project funded to release In Manila . Toro Y Moi puts out his sophomore album as well (pictured at right). Major labels have some good stuff coming out as well. Rye Rye was supposed to finally get her album out--but it may have gotten delayed (again). His music pool techniques can easily be confused with those of Los Amparito or Mexican Institute of Sound, and also to the scratchy and obtrusive methods of Girl Talk and Panda Bear. Tropic-All (Mexico’s nu-folkloric netlabel) will be releasing his EP tentatively titled Amor, Palmeras y Glitch. The EP’s leading track “Amor Caribe” has a nice self-made video that utilizes the ‘mirror’ effect exceptionally.
