Of Montreal

Of Montreal

Canada

Of Montreal is an indie pop/rock band from Athens, Georgia. Kevin Barnes created the band, allegedly naming it for a failed romance with a woman from Montreal. Barnes was the only member of the "group" prior to his relocation to Athens, Georgia. There, he met Derek Almstead (Circulat... Read More

Rumors have abounded over the past decade or so concerning the production of myriad documentaries surrounding '90s indie collective Elephant 6, the loose group of musicians whose members comprised Neutral Milk Hotel, Apples in Stereo, Essex Green, Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System, Elf Power, Of Montreal, and a handful of other acts in and near Athens, Georgia...

  • Video: Of Montreal, ‘Spiteful Intervention’ ..
In Canadian filmmaker Jesse Ewles, pop contortionists Of Montreal found someone with the mad visual skills to match their musical spirit. The video for “Spiteful Intervention,” off the band’s recent album “Paralytic Stalks,” is a painting in motion — a giant eye, Kevin Barnes’ face, blobs of color pulsing — all in arresting and rather [...]

  • On Tour: Of Montreal
I was hoping against hope Of Montreal, who hail from Athens Georgia, would include a western prairie swing in this year’s tour to support “Paralytic Stalks” (February 7 / Polyvinyl), but it’s not meant to be this year. Not at all surprising, since they were at Sled Island in Calgary last June, I suppose, but [...]

  • New of Montreal “Spiteful Intervention” Vide ..
Pitchfork just premiered of Montreal’s mind-blowing new animated video for “Spiteful Intervention,” which brings to life director Jesse Ewles’ surrealist, 17th century still-life inspired acrylic paintings as undulating blobs of color that morph frontman Kevin Barnes’ face into a series of monstrous singing creatures. Watch it below: At NPR, watch an entire of Montreal concert filmed at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club recently to experience their “wildly theatrical” stage setup on tour. of Montreal has also confirmed a string of U.S. …

  • of Montreal - Live At The Irish Centre, Leed ..
When of Montreal first invented themselves as an all-out, electro party band, many gushed at their feet. ‘Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?’ was a perfect parcel of lead singer Kevin Barnes' breakdowns, fallouts and eccentricity. Coupled with multi-layered synths, wacky guitar solos and deeply personal lyrics it became the album to equally elevate and destroy a mood. Joined by an elaborate stage show which involved nakedness, huge theatrical performances and costumes influenced by Bowie and Prince, of Montreal were like a sickly sweet breakdown on LSD. But now five years on from ‘Hissing Fauna’ their latest album, ‘Paralytic Stalks ...

  • Live: Just The Tip. Kishi Bashi, The Waiting ..
The Waiting Room is, generally speaking, an unenviable place to linger: shuddering gusts pass through its poorly hinged doors incessantly and irksomely; the floor is scarcely discernible beyond a crusty gloss of crud; malingerers squirm atop sticky benches to the left, to the left and to the right. Field Day's newly acquired Stoke Newington haunt of the same name is, however, a rather more inviting environ, its walls embellished with faded tiles and incongruous planks of floorboard. Factor in the fiddler in the basement, of Montreal's unsung superlative Kishi Bashi , and you've suddenly got something the hordes ...

  • Of Montreal: "Spiteful Intervention" - neues ..

  • Video: Of Montreal – “Spiteful Intervention” ..
Of Montreal dropped the music video for ”Spiteful Intervention”, which makes viewers feel as if they dropped some acid. Here, we see frontman Kevin Barnes, but not before a pulsating blob of autumnal colors sketches his likeness. Toward the end we see what looks like a dragon, sort of with the distorted mouth of Munch’s ‘The Scream’.
