We're O Children from London. We met in 2009 and have released one album. We're releasing a new one, 'Apnea' on June 4 and we're really excited about it. Tobi frontman, writer and producer of O Children. What are you listening to? Savages, Toy, and Filthy Boy mostly. I've also been listening to a lot of Motown and Gospel. Bob B. Soxx, Crystals, Darlene Love. That and a unhealthy does of Kendrick Lamar. Reading? Kill Your Friends by John Nevin. It's a book about the music industry and reinforces my theory that they're all ...

  • Savages- 'Husbands' [Listen]
The much hyped London band Savages just had another raise in stock, as Pitchfork have done a 'rising' article on them, which usually means the next few months of their careers will be a bit of a whirlwind. In the interview the band describe how they formed, where the name came from, the importance of playing live and much more. Check out the interview here , and their first single 'Husbands' (which is released through Pop Noire on May 28th as a download) here (header photo by Steve Gullick ). • The Great Escape - Brighton - Part One [Revi ..
We're still putting ourselves back together after another brilliant time in Brighton at The Great Escape festival. The weekend is an opportune time to see some of the best new music out there and our writer Nikita Winayak alongside XFM DJ John Kennedy, came across some of the most promising and fresh bands out there. Swim Deep Swim Deep were first on the agenda and since I’ve become a big fan, I'm extremely excited to hear what this Midlands four-piece have to offer live. As they take to the stage, it soon becomes evident that their laid-back ...

  • Greenville Festival: Gemma Ray, The Kabeedie ..

  • We Could Go Far: The Sound
On the 18th of May of each year, fans from all over the world make a pilgrimage to the pit of Lancashire known as Macclesfield to pay tribute to Ian Curtis. Coming up to the thirty second year since death at his own hand, the passion of fans has only become more fervent whilst the commercialisation of his death has reached its lowest ebb, sneakers, bath-towels, Disney t-shirts, his band's bass player hawking third rate cover versions, that kinda thing. I'll take my life Into my own hands I'm the one that I will blame I'm ...

  • Friday At Land Of Kings - Live In Dalston, L ..
“Cool” – or at least the hollow approximation of it – has risen inexorably up London’s Kingsland Road and festered ungainly around Dalston for what seems like an eternity. A grubbily disordered wonderland that serves as a byword for “au courant”, it’s a place where you could likely find yourself watching a gauche indie troupe, a surrealist live art collective and a woman smashing pint glasses into a microphone in the name of “art” within the same evening. The multi-venue extravaganza Land of Kings attempts to accumulate such varied curios across a two-day stretch. Crotchless high-visibility leggings and designer drugs ...

  • O Children Prepare New Single
Returning London indie types O Children are set to release new single 'Chimera' on June 11th. Born out of a traumatic period in singer Tobi O’Kandi’s life, O Children's new album 'Apnea' is a powerful statement. Musically more direct and adventurous than their debut, the record contains some dark, probing lyrics. Album cut 'PT Cruiser' emerged on Record Store Day, with the band now lining up a new single. 'Chimera' is the closing track on the new record, and demonstrates O Children's compelling drama. Due to be released on June 11th, you can stream 'Chimera' below ...

  • Saturday At Land Of Kings - Live In Dalston, ..
Bank holiday weekend dawns and it’s off to a Baltic Dalston for the optimistically-named Land of Kings festival. First stop on our stumble through the grimy kingdom of cool is the cavernous Magnolia for some fortifying Desperados, trippy projections and experimental electronica from the Public Information DJs. From thence we make our way back down Kingsland Road to the Eastern Curve Garden where Clash has decided to sock one in the eye to the British weather and hold a May day fete and reggae party, temperature be damned. We’ve sadly missed the maypole dancing, but we do arrive ...

Hurl in such reputable hosts and party starters as Brownswood, Rough Trade, Dalston Darlings, Walala Greasy Spoon, NTS Radio, Dollop, Disco Bloodbath and many more. • Apnea: O. Children
Sometimes events take on a life of their own. Trying to get back to London, a penniless O. Children opted to smuggle themselves on board a train. Frontman Tobi O'Kandi was caught, and upon being taken to the police station was plunged into a visa battle. Tobi O'Kandi entered the UK when he was six and - unbeknown to the singer - he had outlasted his visa by over a decade. Entering a legal battle, the songwriter was pushed into analysing exactly who he was, and where he was going. Successfully winning his fight to stay in the UK - see ...
