  • News: Watch: My Disco’s First Ever Clip
Whether out of cultural protest, insufficient coin or sheer indifference, Melbourne’s My Disco have never released a single clip – until now. ‘Turn’, which features ballet dancer Erinn Arnel, premiered on Pitchfork.tv overnight. The clip was directed by Stephanie Bailly and David Guest, with lighting by audio-visual artist Robin Fox, who’s become quite a popular figure in Melbourne’s visual arts scene. ‘Turn’ is lifted from My Disco’s third album, Little Joy , which came out locally in late-2010. A tour announcement is expected soon.

January Brisbane floods: As rising flood waters devastate Queensland, several venues within Brisbane’s CBD and Fortitude Valley entertainment precinct are forced to close and cancel gigs . Benefit shows are held across the country, however newly retired Powderfinger decline calls from local MPs to “dust off” their guitars for a once-off benefit show, choosing to release a single for victims instead. Tomorrow, it’s your Top 50 albums of the year. Biggest Controversy 1. Expired Meat Loaf stinks up the AFL Grand Final Angry Anderson’s “Batmobile incident” at VFL Park in 1991 seemed like Prince at Superbowl XLI compared to Meat Loaf’s atonal medley of hits at September’s AFL Grand Final. The performance, which cost a reported $500,000, once again stirred up calls for the AFL to pick ...

  • Not enough Roots
Looking at my vinyl collection a regret I have is that it doesn’t feature enough reggae. My DJing days, way back when, steered me into buying a lot of disco and jazz-funk, many of which just don’t lend themselves to being played outside the context of a hot sweaty club and some of which now, frankly, sound second rate. Oh how I wish now that I could swap at least 50% of my disco 12” singles for

  • Review: The Vasco Era - The Vasco Era
After running from expectations on their first two studio albums to face life crises, short-lived break-ups and critical condemnation, Apollo Bay natives The Vasco Era have finally made peace with their identity to record the most true-to-self release of their eight-year lifespan. Shirking the pop hooks and commercial sheen of last year’s Lucille (produced by Scott Horscroft of Presets and My Disco fame) The Vasco Era have found residence in a new, rougher territory. Self-titled, it steps away from the nervous misses of their debut and academic posturing of their second, culminating in their most successful record to date ...
